While the new models do seem a little... odd, I think they fit better alongside the Inklings proportionally and thematically (squid form is pudgier and more cutesy). Plus, the old octopus form, I'm pretty certain, wasn't very animated. That's not TOO...
^Ah... A snow level...
I could imagine that in deep snow, the ink simply soaks in and makes colored snow. This would be slightly slower to swim through and provide the scenario of "wading through yellow snow".
Oh and a level with neutral ink areas (gray ink?) in which both sides can swim...
Well... In my own opinion, the natural method of swimming is more pleasant, so I'll stick to that...
Of course, that's just my opinion! Do whatever you want to do!
I see now that would really only work with a good player to follow. Unless you luck out pretty good, it might be better to let them waste their time alone.
Opinion/Strategy Options for weapons...
S Jr.: Second best land coverer so far, decent head to head combat, ability; excellent self and team defensive capabilities.
Splattershot: All-around standard, good in head to head combat (better aim than S Jr.?), ability; high bum rush potential.
