I made basically this exact thread a while ago but the meta's changed a lot and I've thought of some improvements (?) to the tier lists so here it is again.

There are a lot of cool little synergies that can happen between a main weapon and its kit. Sadly, most dream kit discussion ends up falling short for me because most of it feels like it's trying to come to an objective conclusion rather than what people actually want. A lot of it feels dictated by what options are currently strong as opposed to what would work best in a vacuum. This idea's goal is to spice things up a bit more.

You have 5 Points to work with to try and create a dream kit for your main. Across the sub and special, you can spend 4 points on one and 1 on the other, 3 on one and 2 on the other, or use less if you feel like you don't need that many. The kit you end up making doesn't have to be what you think is best, just whatever kit you'd like to have seen the most for one reason or another. Keep in mind that the below tier lists aren't meant to be fully accurate to how good each of these things are as opposed to how much general use I think they'd have for the average weapon, give or take a tier or two. Curling Bomb notably had to be put a tier up because I think it's just leagues better than the other 2 pointer subs.

Maaaaaybe there's too much stuff in the 3 point subweapon and 2 point special categories which would make it too appealing to pick since they nicely add up to 5 but I think the gap between the 2 point and 4 point specials is high enough to the point where I'm okay with it. Everyone as a group's responses will end up speaking for themselves.

To start us off and for the sake of example, for a Decavitator kit, this is another example where 2 point Curling Bomb would be insane since there are a lot of very strong specials for it that are worth 3 points. I could very easily say Curling Bomb + Inkjet and that would be it, no questions asked. It's hard for me to come to a strong conclusion here since I could see the justification for a lot of different things on this weapon.

Maybe I'm avoiding the stuff on the current kits because I don't want to think too hard about a direct downgrade from either of those but for now I'll say I like Point Sensor + Booyah Bomb here, spending 3 points on my special and 2 on my sub to match the limit of 5 points in total. I don't think Decav is super dependent on its subweapon being good to function and in this meta especially having a good special is definitely better than having a good sub. Point Sensor would still be alright because of how well this weapon's dash lets it poke past cover. Booyah Bomb gives it a form of good continuation and fast, but not foolproof protection that helps mitigate how slow it is. Also allows it to threaten enemies at a distance or over ledges which this weapon really wants. Honorable mention to Curling Bomb + Screen though.

So, what would you do with your main(s)?

Mini Splatling with Curling Bomb and Super Chump. I already wanted this kit even without the restrictions.

Big Swig Roller with Ink Mine and Booyah Bomb. Functional support kit with decent tools all around for the main.

Bit surprised Kraken Royale is up in 3 points, but I guess 2 points for specials is a bit bloated. You could probably switch it with Killer Wail 5.1 since that’s seen a big popularity boost lately and is good for a lot of weapons. Kraken has kind of fallen off with the prevalence of faster short-range weapons. If I recall correctly.

Wall/Storm Heavy and it's not even difficult!!!!!!! RAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

MARKER/CHUMPS HYDRAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I'M COMING OUT OF THIS SO RICH!!!!

Please note that the line marker/super chump kit is not what I think would be best for my beloved Hydra Splatling, but rather what I think would be the most fun. Though even if I did go with what I think would be best (Ink Mine/Ink Storm), I would still have 1 point leftover :)

Sprinkler and inkjet. On s-blast, in case it wasn't obvious.

The sub weapon was by far the easier part; I just 4 starred '92 and sprinkler works much better than I gave it credit for. I won't explain all of that here so just trust me for now, but it's definitely worth the points compared to the other subs s-blast would want.

There are a few good options for the special, but inkjet stands out as the best, aside from possibly booyah bomb, but then it would only have parts from '91 and '92 and that's boring. So I went with inkjet. It plays from positions s-blast already likes, so you're not moving out of your way at all to use it, and it excels at exactly the situations the main struggles, which is forcing your way in against a wall of midlines/backlines. The shots at long range would force them to either move out of position or die, which I can't understate how hard it is for the main. Getting quick kills with it under a ledge isn't as important since the jump shots can do that, but once you get that kill, you're in perfect position to pop inkjet and get more. And if you only get one hit before they run, inkjet can combo with that as well.
Plus, the synergy with the *other* weapons in the comp helps with team building as well. Things that like pushing up with s-blast are the same things that like pushing up with inkjet. They both combo with two-shots, are both aoe, they both focus on getting picks... the list goes on. I'm not that experienced with comp building but I think it's fairly obvious that this could work well for that.

So yeah, choosing the special wasn't that hard after all. Sprinkler inkjet sounds super fun to play, too.

It might be a bit odd, but I’d want point sensor and screen on wiper. The screen can combo with wiper, and the point sensor can essentially let you see through the screen. The synergy is really nice, and location is also good in the current meta, with roller and the like being good.

I'm not going to overthink it and go with Nova with the Splat Bomb + Splashdown. I think its existing kits are already pretty decent, but I think this would make for a fun and accessible aggressive kit that ties together all of the main weapon's loose ends (even if a little too much.)

Burst Stamp Tenta Brella let's GOOOO

Realistically, I'd even be happy with Dart Stamp, so this is. an improvement.
It could unironically be better than the current kits, Burst on tent would be completely broken but super fun

For the sub I was debating between splat bomb and suction bomb as they're both pretty good, but ultimately I decided to go with suction as the extra paint output it provides would be useful and splat roller can also play off it a bit better since it can toss a suction to stop people from going one way and proceed to go at them at a different angle.

Triple splashdown would just be freaking insane on roller it's already so good at sharking now imagine instead of a roller jumping out it's instead a splashdown can get multiple people at once. There is also the bonus of splashdown being able to get on ledges if you activate it at a decent length away from the wall of the ledge.

I originally thought about going for Splat Bomb with Killer Wail 5.1 but if Machine is going to have to deal with the 70% ink tank cost from Splat Bomb then I rather have a more aggressive special paired up with it.
It also helps that I find the idea of this kit extremely interesting even if I would only get three sloshes after using my sub.
I probably don't have to explain why I made TSD 190p either.
My opinion on the special isn't extremely high so I don't see a reason to heavily restrict the amount that Machine will get per match with its poor ink efficiency and weak paint output.
