So I just recently 4 starred big swig express not on purpose, but while looking at the 4 stars on swig I noticed something. I always call my self a roller player, a roller main, yet aside from just recently I only really got 2 rollers at 4 stars or higher The two being Splat and Krak-on. That is when I got a genius Possibly stupid Idea. What if I were to 4 star every single roller in the game.
To make it more interesting every single time I four star a roller I will write (type) down my thoughts about the weapon here in this thread. It seems fun and is a good learning experience about the weapon class as a whole.
To make it a bit neater my thoughts will be organized like this
Kit synergy
Strengths
Weaknesses
Final thoughts
To kick off this long, LONG thread we start off with none other than the king (or queen) of the rollers
SPLAT ROLLER
Kit synergy: I don't think I need to tell you this but in case I do this kit is the perfect kit for the weapon, Curling bomb enables the weapon in so many different ways. It basically makes the entire enemy team paranoid of every single curling bomb you will ever toss, and if they ignore any of your curlings you take advantage of it and kill them, That is not to discredit bubble though in fact bubble is what ties the main and sub into this neat package the kit synergy is just incredible
Strengths: I already talked about how great the kit is for this weapon, now for the strengths and there is one big strength this weapon has which is how it can Single handedly change the entire way the enemy team plays the game, While there are some sub weapons that can shut down a roller player (Which we will get to soon). If the enemy team doesn't have those options they are going to struggle against a good roller. Another big strength if left unchecked is how roller can easily team wipe the enemies, yes other weapons can do it too, but none are as consistent as splat roller.
Weaknesses: Every weapon has their weaknesses and splat roller is no exception, Some more notable ones includes. Team composition. Roller can't paint for crap, so it desperately needs a good painting weapon on its team to properly do it job. another thing that can mess a roller player up is location tools mostly auto and sensor. Trust me when I say the amount of time my game plans get stopped is when someone on the enemy team keeps spamming point sensor and just having a permanent target on my back
Final thoughts: I don't know how to end it except I love this weapon. I been playing since Splatoon 1 and this weapon always stuck by me. So yea splat roller will always have a place in my heart and weapon pool no matter what!
KRAK-ON ROLLER
Kit synergy: So vanilla roller already has a top tier kit which means that krak-on has some massive shoes to fill, did it fill it? eh... no kind of not really. One of the first thing you notice when playing this weapon is just how reliant splat roller is on it sub. having a deployable really takes roller out of play a lot. But don't worry it has kraken which is actually pretty good.
Strengths: The weapon has less strengths than it splat counterpart but it still has some. The biggest one being it completely different play style. Where it focus on charging up a kraken to get into the enemy base and place some sneaky beakons. If the beakons aren't destroyed you will have an absolute field day jumping back behind the enemy team and getting some picks. Kraken is also just a good special an invincible aggro special that can one shot.
Weaknesses: All the things I said about the main and special being good together, kind of don't matter when the weapon can't charge it special at all. Yes splat also has this problem, but splat is not reliant on the special to do its job. Krak-on is and without a bomb you are not getting much krakens unless you run special charge up which takes away gear slots you usually use for other abilities for roller. Also no leathal bomb or poking tool, I know I talk about it a lot but it really does mess the weapon up.
Final thoughts: Krak-on roller is the fun casual weapon I play in open sometimes, but it easy to see why this is not a competitive weapon especially when the weapon already has another kit which is just perfect for it. I still have some love for this weapon as it the weapon that made me decide to become a roller main all the way back in splat 1 when Kraken was insanely OP. But now its not the same still like the weapon though.
BIG SWIG ROLLER EXPRESS
Kit synergy: It has angle shooter... Well that is not a promising start, as we all know angle shooter is just bad in every way possible. But no worry the special can save it just like how zip saved slosher deco, what's the special anyway? The special is ink storm... ok it kind of works but its also not really helping swig since every other storm weapon utilize storm better and i'm not kidding. Alright I'm being a little negative here you can see the vision here (Unlike the other swig) it just that all the parts are kind of weak aside from inkstorm.
Strengths: It can paint a lot, and it can spam a lot of storm. Good lord I'm streching for some strengths, alright it also does a lot of object damage to crab and rain maker shield. it cheese zones, uh... the weapon name is funny to say.
Weaknesses: Alright I'm calling it now both of the big swigs weakness section is going to be the largest. This weapon just doesn't really have much going for it except a lot of paint. It the only roller that can't one shot with a horizontal, it vertical swing hitbox is incredibly small, you will have an easier time hitting a moving dart board blindfolded, than a moving target with vertical. for this weapon specifcally I can kind of understand what angle shooter is meant to do. It's suppose to be a combo tool for swig it just that hitting the combo is difficult and at that point you might as well just do another horizontal flick than waste 40% of your ink tank and hope for a lucky shot.
Final thoughts: This weapon is fun to play basically just throwing up a ton of paint all over the map. But really that the only thing it can do paint a lot and at that point you might as well play any other painting weapon. I want this weapon to be good as a roller focus on painting and supporting the team is fun. But the main is just kind of weak right now, and the kit it has is also not helping. Like what would you rather have on your team considering equal skill level (Whether solo queue or team play) a big swig that has storm and a marker, or a neo splash with a bomb and tri strike. Kind of sad how the weapon turned out but truth be told I do like playing me some swig every once in a while.
ALRIGHT. That is all for the rollers I already have at 4-stars (5 for vsplat) like I say every time I get a roller at 4 starI will proceed to add a comment in the exact same format.
EDIT: Alright so right now I'm in the process of 4 starring vcarbon (Just got it up to three) and looking at it now it seems difficult to try and organize all of my thoughts about vcarbon in this format. So to make it easier on me I will just have each section be a long ramble instead of this neat format. More messier but easier to just get my thoughts out there.
