Personally, I play handheld with sticks, since when I started playing, me and my family were at a hotel so there wasn’t really any TVs to connect it to. I’ve heard so many pros say that motion is better! Its just like a mouse! But I was never able to really adjust to using it… so uhh yha…
But how do you play? I’m keen to know!

i basically only play splatoon in tv mode (occasionally tabletop if a tv isn't available). unless im drawing a plaza post

when i started i assumed motion was a weird gimmick nobody uses and i turned it off but my friend who got me into splatoon immediately was like omg no motion is good. ive been using motion so long i don't really remember what it was like to learn tbh, but it was a pretty quick adjustment for me with the help of some youtube guides (friend in question linked me DUDE's guide to learning motion controls)

A. Stop using sticks. No matter what. Please. It’s better.

B. See A.

I don't know about you guys but if my monitor is even slightly closer to or further away from me compared to usual, my ability to play just completely tanks LOL. Maybe it would less since I've been playing a weapon that doesn't need as precise of aim but I still can't play on handheld at all because it becomes way more difficult to pick up on the smaller things that happen on screen.

I always have motion controls turned on but sticks are nice for turning the camera when I don't have any need to do so quickly. Lets me keep my hands in a more "ready" position to flick left or right if someone jumps me or something.

Born to handheld mode with motion, forced to table mode with motion.

(I use a switch lite. It has drifting sticks so I gotta use a pro controller. I miss holding my switch man :( )

Playing in TV mode and motion controls are just another of those "marginal gains" that I always tell myself make a difference to my performance.

It helps my focus and that's probably made the difference between victory and defeat before.

I have been using my switch handheld with sticks for my whole life (since I was 3!) so it's only natural for me to play that way.
I have NEVER used motion controls due to kind of controllers I have.
I don't like to hook it up to my TV because it makes everything seem super overwhelming as it is so much bigger than normal. I only do this when I play multiplayer games with somebody who doesn't own a switch or just wants the TV instead. But personally, I would never play anything like that.

List of marginal gains I do every time I play Splatoon 3:
  • Use motion controls and play in TV mode.
  • Take a piss before playing because if I don't want to be in a situation in which my bladder is about to ****ing explode but I can't pause because it's an online game. That has the potential to negatively effect my performance and throw off my aim (in the game).
  • Play a game of turf war first to warm up and get alert and ready.
  • Turn "game mode" on my TV, which makes everything brighter and louder and helps me focus I guess?
  • Always play while only wearing 1 layer (preferably a t-shirt) because I don't want to get hot and sweaty - this might make my aim slightly worse idk.
  • Booyah to increase morale amongst your team (morale is important).
  • Make sure the pro controller I'm using has a good battery and is not "the bad controller" with a lousy ZR button that doesn't feel right.
  • Always try and start a squid party before a match with your team to boost morale.
  • Make sure that you're not tilting because tilting = a drop in morale. This is the only I always forget to do, but I don't tilt very often anyway.
I DO ALL OF THESE THINGS AND I STILL CAN'T ESCAPE THE PRISON THAT IS S RANK.

I play with motion in TV mode, but when the TV is taken I use handheld motion rather than trying to figure out how to set up tabletop mode (my kickstand is broken)

I got to S+ for the first time using e-liter on handheld mode with motion controls. So yes, it's a thing

First of all I exclusively play on tabletop, and it has to be in front of a fan bc my Switch's internal fan broke from me dropping it (It makes demonic noises when it starts to get hot). I play with a Pro Controller with fairly sensitive Motion Controls. I usually listen to music (Usually Japanese Jazz Fusion. City Pop or early 2000s DnB/Breakcore) or some brainrot stuff to stimulate my brain on my PS5. I have to lay down with my hands off my bed to really FEEL them motion controls.

I apologize if this comes off as an "erm ackshewally" type of deal or if it's too unrelated to the thread but the big draw of game mode (on every TV I've owned, anyways) is that it reduces the amount of time it takes from a button press to be registered on your controller, to put into the game, to the gameplay effects of it being shown on your screen. Basically it'll feel like the game is reacting faster to what you're doing. The difference is very small, usually like a tenth of a second or less, but for a lot of people this can be super noticeable and can throw you off. Playing with game mode on is always better though because it's faster there.

It's actually pretty easy to fix your kickstand, you just go between the metal parts and the plastic holding them with a small screwdriver or card and bend them a little, just like that it's good like new. The issue is that the kickstand is held in with little metal prongs and as you use it more they start to bend in and don't hold, but bending them out fixes it.

I play with a Pro Controller
Do you mean tabletop mode? Handheld mode is when you are playing using the joycons attached to the switch, so you're holding the entire console in your hands. Tabletop mode is when you're playing with a controller that's not directly attached to the console but the console still isn't docked
