Hey gang!

My vacation is coming up (so free money) and I'm currently wondering what Splatoon merch to buy, as any respecting teenager would...
So here I am! I have a few options and need some opinions:
  1. Splatoon Amiibo! They're on sale for the equivalent of $10 (for SPL1 and only a little bit higher for SPL2/SPL3) and there are quite a few cool looking ones... but I'm scared of getting bullied for having them around (I know... it's not as if my friends are in my room every day and stuff... BUT IT'S STILL SOMETHING I'M SCARED OF!!!)
  2. Random Splatoon plush! It's there and is the only other merch really at my local store... It's around $20
  3. The Splatoon DLC?!?! Yha I haven't bought it yet and the vacation is the perfect time to play some rouge-like!!!
  4. IMPORRTS?!?! Not the most cost-effective thing... but it is a option (if I only want like... one cool thing...)
  5. SAVE UP FOR MARIO AND LUIGI BROTHERSHIP?!?!? (It's not coming out in a while though...)
So uhh yha... I have like $100..., so please advise... I suck at financial stuff...
Thanks :D

Imports should be the kind of thing you only buy if there's something you really, REALLY want and cannot get otherwise. They're just so much pricier it's not even funny. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about getting bullied for anything because you can just put your merch away before you have people over worst case.

If you like the figures, I'd say get some amiibo (The original Callie and Marie pack probably aren't too hard to find, I haven't checked in a while but their multiple reprints means they're typically either sold at original sale price, or pretty close to it, or you can see what places have the newest sets in stock still), but as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, if you just want the gear and don't care about the figures, buy amiibo coins for much cheaper to get all the gear you want.

I'd also say the plush is probably a good option, but it depends which one. I'm quite the fan of plushies (I've got two Splatoon specific ones, but a TON of Pokemon and assorted other video game characters and animals around), but if it's on the smaller side, I'd say you'd probably have more fun getting something else for the same/similar price, like an amiibo set.

I would also HIGHLY recommend the DLC, I'd say get that first, and have everything else as optional things you're still thinking about. Gameplay is really fun and can definitely last you the trip!

Don't do imports unless it's Japan exclusive and you really want it. More expensive, takes longer to get to you, and ultimately you can probably find it somewhere else.

And as a final note, don't worry about people potentially bullying you over it. I know it's easier said than done to do so, but I've honestly found that treating my interests as though they'd get me bullied ultimately just put in places where I WAS, whereas being unabashed and wearing my interests on my sleeves ended up attracting other people just as interested as I am. It's all up to you though, and if you're worried, something small like amiibo can just be kept on you and without much risk of people seeing it, and even then amiibo are fairly normal in terms of collectables, anyone who recognizes them AS amiibo probably has at least SOME interest in video games and won't find it too weird!

honestly if your friends will see some little squid/octopus(.../miscellaneous fish) figurines and bully you for that, it's worth considering whether their opinions are worth your time. i get it's hard to cast aside the judgements of people you care about and want to consider friends but like... if they're true friends they won't get on your case about you having amiibo. especially because like, i've seen some in real life, they're really not that big, it's not like everyone entering your room is gonna get jumpscared by a giant octopus

anyway there's some really cool jp-exclusive merch but as others have said, international shipping and proxy fees and etc etc can add up. for $100 you might end up with like, one cool thing - if that! - and no more money to spend on anything else. i bought myself the first splatune CD set off ebay as a birthday present to myself last year and after shipping and everything it was $80. so unless there's something specific you're looking at that you can afford for $100 i wouldn't go that route right now

i definitely recommend getting the dlc though! that'll put you down $25 (+ tax probably), so you could afford some combination of amiibo and that plush you're looking at. if you want to save up for brothership i wouldn't spend the whole $100, so you can decide how much you want to put aside for that and spend accordingly

What imports tho? Also the model is almost done, just posing it
Was going to get Japanese small fry stamps… I love em!
But with all your inputs… I’ll buy the DLC, some amiibo coins (for gear) and then probably the small fry or the squid sisters ones, deepcut is out of stock :(
Thanks again!!! You guys are awesome, I’m so happy I joined this forum :D

What’s the budget? I gotta actually see what choices there are. I know you can buy an amiibo card set if you want the outfits but low on funds or want to conserve shelf space. DLC should be a priority at this point. There’s always something Splatoon related on Etsy.

I really recommend getting the DLC first it’s not only pretty fun, but it also has some great replayability.

-I would do amiibos if you like figures and if you play the game a lot (for gears and for 5 additional builds)
-You can never go wrong with a plush! I have an orange squid plush I also use as a pillow and it's super comfy and super nice to touch!
-The DLC again depends on how much you play the game, or plan on. If it's a vacation you're talking about, then Side Order should be short and replayable for what it's worth! Plus you get Order weapons and whatnot.
-Like others said, import should be a last resort for something you really want you absolutely cannot find. Splat merches are hard to find outside of Japan but also consider whether it's worth the money.
-Saving up for Mario & Luigi does sound like a good idea but will you be able to play it a lot when it comes out?

Me personally.....

Maybe more amiibos?? they are on sale. usually around here they are like, $20 💀 so $10 sounds awesome :D
definitely a plushie.... (smallfry, if they have one?!?!?)
lastly..... STICKERS.

Then again, it's all up to you in the end :3
