Story:
GrizzCo has collaborated with a third party company, owned by Cap'N Cuttlefish. You would be given a promotion, offered 25XP per win instead of the normal 20. Cap'N Cuttlefish owns a firm where he takes salmonid eggs, modifies them into a product, and distributes them to merchant sellers. Grizz just salvages the eggs to himself as a private contractor, offering payment for food.
The Salmon Fest competition would be a bet between Cuttlefish and Grizz. Whatever side wins gets a higher percentage cut of the total earnings from the event, within their partnership.
This event would begin on Friday at 10AM and end on Sunday at Midnight. On Monday, at 2AM, the results will be revealed.
As for promotion, Nintendo would make an announcement of this event, as well as Deep Cut mentioning an event from their sponsor being held on a weekend.
Note: I need some help with ideas for how splatsville would look like during the event. Part of the square possibly submerged underwater with new life washed up to dry land? This could make it appear more like an octo canyon world. Maybe, in the days leading up to the event, water from the sewer entrance to the main campaign serves as a geyser, shooting up spurts of water, slowly flooding the town. If you go into Alterna for hero mode, you'd notice that some of the worlds have been altered in aesthetic and design from the result of this high tide. This could be a clever way to sort of, "update" campaign without having to really add too much. A higher sea level could give some verticality + puzzle solving to platforms, with even a timing mechanic to raising/lowering objects tied to the water levels. (Maybe, Cap'N Cuttlefish would explain to us that once a season, a high tide comes in, riddling the seas, and bringing more salmonids to the shorelines. This could be why the event is specifically during this time in lore, as its, "a special time of the season" to scavenge for eggs.)
How a winning side would be determined:
-Total number of eggs collected
-Total amount of wave 3 clears and/or wave 4 completions. (We'll touch on this later)
-Number of shifts worked.
General consensus:
-Like Splatfests, there are two sides, both representing either Cuttlefish or Grizz. Salmon Fests should debut with hunting vs fishing, a theme that fits the general consensus of salmon run. Another example of a theme would be Agent 4 vs Agent 3. (Just like Mayo vs Ketchup, you get it...)
-On team Grizz, you will be using the GrizzCo weapons that are normally very rare to acquire. With Cuttlefish, however, you'll be using Sheldon's hero weaponry from the campaign, (These would be modified to level 1 or 2 in stats like in Hero Mode) since Sheldon is a sponsor of Cuttlefish's firm. (Both GrizzCo and Hero weaponry share the same stats) There will be one weapon per class for each side's weapon roster. (Like the GrizzCo blaster, GrizzCo roller, etc.) However, these weapons would also be categorized by which side you choose. For instance, if you picked Cuttlefish, then under the shooter's class may list a Splattershot, while working under GrizzCo, it may be an N'Zap under shooters instead. (This would make choosing a side more difficult)
-Some other differences between the two sides also include different worker's outfits branded from separate companies, with your side's theme name labeled on it. Also, the announcer during salmon run games are altered as well, as picking Cuttlefish will grant you his pre-wave monologues instead of Grizz's: "NOW GO GET ME SOME EGGS" The final key difference is your side's ink color, as it varies by the theme. (Help me with thinking of colors for fishers vs hunters!)
-You can earn up to five super bonuses throughout this three day event. These super bonuses each have a 600 point quota to reach in order to be achieved. These points will serve as Salmon Fest’s "clout" from Splatfests. As well as this, there will be titles under these points that you can earn through progression, which is basically Splatfest's second ranking system. (Mayo fanboy, Mayo defender, Mayo fiend, Mayo champion, Mayo king, you get the point.) Basically, with each super bonus acquired, a new title rank is also achieved for you. In addition to this, every additional rank adds +1 to your already +25 per win promotion of your current ranking meter, making it possible to get +30 a game at max title 5.
What's different from "Salmon Fests" than a typical game of salmon run:
-New enemies would pop up in the existing map rotation.
-Just like in Splatfests, there will be one new map added into the rotation, which the game decides on choosing either the new map or the existing one in that current shift. This would stay true to Shifty Station's layout changes in splatfests.
-X10 and X100 games like in Splatfests, which is basically a "Max Hazard Level '' version of Salmon Fests’ already challenging difficulty. All three waves will be special rounds, with slight twists to them. (On "Mothership", the UFO will travel slightly faster, and take more hp to cling itself off of your egg bucket) There will also be a "Wave 4" which serves as a boss battle stage. The difficulty of this boss will be determined by what X-value you are playing for. (X10 is more like the Hero Mode boss fights, while X100 is more in the realms of an Octo Expansion version of the already existing fight from the latter.)
-A few new special waves. One I have in mind is an actual, "survival" round, where the clock is increased to 6 minutes, and all your team has to do is not get crew wiped, with a ton of enemies spawning at once. Or, a submarine that ascends from the ocean, which you will have to take down for eggs to meet a quota. (Maybe, the battleship would use a radar to target players, like an echolocator, and can’t detect those who are submerged in ink.)
-Remixed versions of some Salmon Run music.
-Maps are all at night with fireworks.
-AI difficulty is increased. (The devs could just take the already implemented "Max Hazard Level" event from regular salmon run, and tinker with the values of that into Salmon Fests.)
-Increased quotas. (Probably +3 to +5 added to the existing quotas of every meter rank.)
Just a note; I took concepts from Splatfests to make it easier for Nintendo to theoretically implement in a “Salmon Fest” type of concept, since the meta is already there. I know that some of these ideas are more idealistic than realistic. If you have any ideas as to how this could work, let me know in the comments :)
