As of recent, I've noticed an issue only in Splatoon 3 where when tilting the stick all the way forward, my character would often stop or move very slowly.
This is something that only has happened recently, and I don't believe it's the stick or controller since when I go to calibrate it it works perfectly fine.

I've also seen at least one more mention of this issue, in which they link it to maybe a recent patch messing something up but I barely remember how exactly the discussion went, sorry...

In any case, I just wanted to know if more people have had the same issue, it could be something on my side too but I thought it worth mentioning here since Splatoon 3 is the only game I have this issue on

ive had this issue before on multiple pro controllers, its just stick drift. idr exactly what to do abt it but you can fix/lessen it on your own w/o buying a whole new controller

It's stick drift. If it was an issue with an update for the game, everyone (or at least a very noticeable amount of people) would be having this issue all at once.

When I had stick drift, it showed up in Splatoon before it did in other games. Probably because other games just disregard very slight stick inputs, and Splatoon takes that input and moves you (or the camera).

Definitely stick drift. I've had it twice so far. The first time it was my right stick, and it was significantly affecting my aim. I opened up the controller to clean both sticks and that got rid of the problem perfectly.

The second time was literally last night, and a very similar issue to what you're describing. I held up on the left stick (or more reliably, a diagonal direction and then up), and it sometimes registered moving back down, even to resting position. No other directions were affected. Considering I didn't want to bother opening my controller again, and that the drift wasn't as bad, I eyedropped some IPA into just the left stick, swiveled it around a while, and let it dry out. Fixed my drift yet again lol. Though if it shows up again I might actually open it up and give it another proper cleaning.

I'd recommend opening your controller to clean it, if that's something you're comfortable doing. Here's the tutorial I followed, it's relatively easy, just be careful with the ribbon cable. Otherwise you could try doing what I did and just drop some IPA in without opening the controller, but I worry that if there's actually a lot of debris in there it wouldn't do much good.

The stick drift issue doesn't have to do with the game, it has to do with how Nintendo made the controllers. I had a few Joycons drift while I tried to play other games before Splatoon 3, so this issue is not only on the Pro Controller and it's definitely not a Splatoon 3 problem.

Thanks for the answers, seems pretty reasonable to think it's stick drift

This is also useful, thank you!

Happened again man...
It has to be a thing for Splatoon right?
At the very least Splatoon is more susceptible to this since when looking at the stick calibration it doesn't seem to be a problem...
I will try some stuff already said here again but it's frustrating needing to fix this to play comfortably aughhh...

Oh yeah that sounds like stick drift, I had at least two Pro Controllers encounter that so far. You can send it to Nintendo for a repair which cost $40 when I did it last back in 2020. It's cheaper than buying a new controller and can have peace of mind knowing the repair is done officially/correctly. Plus, if you have a special edition Pro Controller, you'll get to keep it in most cases. All my repair experiences with Nintendo have gone well so far.

I ended up cleaning it myself since I don't really want to send for a repair or buy a new one, and I fixed the issue for the moment.
At first I did end up with a button a bit loose but I ended up fixing that too, so I think it's a very viable alternative as long as you're careful and not a bit of a clutz like me hahhah.
That being said, I was able to fix it immediately in the moment because my dad has a lot of tools for computers, so not everyone will have the same options as me.

Glad to hear you were able to fix it yourself! I'm always a bit afraid to do that stuff myself, my finger dexterity isn't the best.
