Out of the Dark, Part 1:

What Happened to Agent 3?

-A Brief Story of Kira’s Dad-



Kira’s dad, Agent 3, former apprentice of Marie from the Squid Sisters, was once thought to be forever lost. Then along came Agent 8, who found Agent 3 and brought him back (in Splatoon 2).



A little while after that, Agent 3’s daughter Kira was brought into the world. He loved her very much, but knew he still had a duty to perform so had no choice but to go to battle as was required of him. He left her in the care of Flo and Sheldon while he was gone. He always came back- except on his last trip, where he died tragically but heroically in a battle with evil boss salmonids.



His young daughter was his last thought. Lovingly, he said her name as he died. It was the last word he ever spoke.



Of course Kira had no idea about this. She didn’t even know her father’s exact identity until just recently. All she knew was that he had died fighting bravely, and that he loved her very much while he was alive. All she remembered of him were kind eyes and a goofy laugh.



But as per Kira’s father’s wishes, Flo and Sheldon continued to care for Kira, aided by Marina, and never revealed her parents’ true identities.

Out of the Dark, Part 2:

What Happened to Dedf1sh?

-A Brief Story of Kira’s Mom-



For a long time, Dedf1sh- the promising aspiring DJ- was thought to be forever lost. When Commander Tartar was defeated, however, the remaining Sanitized Octolings were “freed.” Although they could no longer feel strong emotion, they were no longer under the evil mind control. Dedf1sh felt finally safe to come out of the shadows and was found by Pearl, Marina, Agent 8, and Agent 3, along with the remaining other Sani-Octos.



Agent 3 quickly fell in love with Dedf1sh, even though he knew she couldn’t truly love him back. He wanted to do everything he possibly could to help her. He brought her back to Inkopolis and found a safe place for her to stay. He even convinced Marina to let her borrow some recording equipment, so she could continue to make music! And he visited her everyday and patiently taught her all about emotions and what they looked like, and what they were used for. Slowly, bit by bit, as if by a miracle, Dedf1sh began to regain her personality back.



Eventually, she learned how to love. Agent 3 was happy for her but figured she’d go on to find some handsome, talented Octo-boy. So he was surprised when the Octo dj turned around and devoted her newfound love right back to him.



Long story short, Kira was the end result of this. And it was the birth (or hatching?) of the youngest Inkfinity Trio member that completely broke the spell for Dedf1sh- now Alivef1sh. Her love for her sweet little Oct-Ink daughter and for Agent 3 totally overpowered and filled up the void of emptiness the cruel Sanitation process had left her with.



Sadly, the happy-ever-after would not last. Dedf1sh tragically died from a strange illness not even two years after Kira’s first breath, leaving Agent 3 to take care of her on his own. He did the best he could but he also had his own war duties to perform, which meant he couldn’t always be there for his little girl.



He left her in the care of Flo from Headspace and Sheldon from Ammo Knights. However due to having their own shop duties, they had difficulty also. So they called upon Marina and Pearl to see if they could find anyone willing to take care of tiny Kira, and when they arrived, Marina instantly fell in love with the baby Inkling-Octoling hybrid. So she helped take care of Kira herself, with Flo and Sheldon.



It was from both Kira’s birth-mom, Dedf1sh, and her adoptive “mom/big sister,” Marina, that she found a passion for music.

Bonus: Theory About How an Inkling or Octoling Could Permanently Die



If an Inkling/Octoling is splatted, its body dissolves and its soul rises and returns to the nearest available Respawn Point, where it would return to its ink to renew its body.



However if, in theory, an Inkling/Octoling were to get trapped somewhere very very far from a Respawn Point and be splatted, their body would not only dissolve but their soul would also be trapped there until it dissolves as well, due to the soul not being able to return to a Respawn Point in time.

(Like, in Splatoon 2? It was immediately after Agent 8 defeated Tartar in the Fly Octo Fly/Ebb and Flow statue scene. Then maybe three or four years later Kira was born.)
