Hi All,

My son recently took his Wii-U to his grandmothers for school holidays. While playing with his cousins and with the splatoon disk being left on the floor .... the surface of the disk was scratched and the disk is now un-usable. I purchased another Splatoon disk and when he started playing the game he was back to Level 1 ... same Wii-U console ... only the disk has changed.

Is there anyway to recover his old level rating?

Thx. Geoff.

the save data is saved on the Wii-U (OR a USB stick if you had one inserted), so this is weird.

is he playing on the same NNID as before?

Excuse my ignorance but what's an NNID (Nintendo Net ID - a guess!) ... how do you get it? Nothing has changed regards his login ... same house, same network, same Wii-U ... but you may have hit on something ... his old 8GB USB memory stick was complaining of running out of space so I changed it when he got back .... and used the old one to put movies on for him .... hmmm ... may have shot myself in the foot there ....

An NNID is an account you set up when you first turn on Wii U (also known as a Nintendo Network ID) You can have more than one NNID, and each NNID comes with its own saved game data as well as its own mii, which you create when you first create an NNID.

It sounds like you saved the game on the usb memory stick, is that right? That may be your problem right there unless the original save data is still on the Wii U itself. USB flash drives can get pretty touchy, which is why its not always a good idea to rely on them for saving progress. You can kinda get away with it as a temporary backup though depending on how its done.

Thanks Blu .... I've been reading about people using hard drives instead .... looking into that ... yeah ... I think I may have trashed it on the USB.

Sure thing. Yeah, USB drives can be a little finicky, but portable drives should work just fine if you are looking into a external storage solution for wii u. Nintendo recommends a external that requires a plug, but if you have a y cable handy, you could also use most portable usb powered hard drive solutions too. Hope everything works out! :)
