I... have never heard of that happening like, ever. Maybe I'm just out of touch with wiki specific communities, but that seems... bizarre. And weird. The closest that comes to mind for me was the Control Fandom wiki looking like they were going to be allowed to become an official wiki, except that it was under the requirement that they fork from Fandom and be hosted somewhere else, and the entire thing ended up falling through anyways (Sigh... Control isn't a game that necessarily demands a really well hosted wiki, but it's still disappointing. I love the game a lot and would've loved for it to go independently hosted for the wiki).I used to hang out on the sky cotl fandom community a lot but it always rubbed me the wrong way that TGC (the makers of the game) gave the right to that fandom wiki to be their official wiki. I mean just pay for a proper one if you're gonna do that!
****ing hate Fandom. All my favorite niche games are on it, so I need to trudge through the ads and surveys. **** YOU FANDOM AKMXJJXJNENSI HATE FANDOM RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
i hope every wiki on the planet goes independent and the fandom versions of these wikis become so unusable nobody ever bothers using it anymore
it's not always a perfect fix but if you use firefox or chrome, get this extension! it directs you to the non-wikia-hosted wiki for any given franchise if one exists, and redirects you to breezewiki/one of its mirrors if one doesn't****ing hate Fandom. wait what?! I already hated fandom due to the amount of ads that makes browsing the site down right frustrating (especially on mobile). But this is just down right scummyUghhhh fandom has been been so hostile to community-run wikis even back when it was still wikia. I was part of an another community's effort a while back to move their community wiki off fandom to something community-hosted, and they had to be soooo sneaky about it, taking care to post absolutely nothing publicly about the project but instead to migrate everything to the new wiki first and then privately talk 1:1 to each individual in the community (it was a relatively small community but that was still no small feat) to let them know what was going on so they could quietly contribute and change any links they had to point to the new wiki before Fandom would notice what was happening, lol. It was more or less successful, but that was only because we had heard and learned from the horror stories of other communities trying to move off Fandom and how contributors/community members were harassed and threated by staff and so on.

YES. YES IT IS.much like twitter i'm deadnaming that website forever. you cant just call yourself "fandom" that's confusing and stupid
Yeah, it's awful, though I guess it's pretty in-character for them to do anything to keep people generating free content for their ad-ridden platform so they can keep profiting off of others' volunteer efforts to help their community.wait what?!
