Kinda Nuts
SO! I noticed a few things about the Mint Decavitator, so I figured I'd talk about it in as much depth as we currently know.
First off, the most obvious part - the dash. They showed this A LOT in the trailer to the point where it made some other parts of this a bit weirder to figure out. You dash much further than either of the other splatanas. This is most obvious at the clip starting at 1:04 in the trailer. It's gotta be between twice and three times as far or something like that?
Almost definitely to compensate, this weapon straight up does not have a traditional vertical slash like the other Splatanas do. Instead you have a charged horizontal that's meant to make it easier to dash one direction and attack in another. If there are any doubts, I'm almost certain that this is a one-shot. The Brella user they attacked seemed to be fully healthy.
This charge attack probably doesn't have a projectile though. Usually if you hit someone with a Splatana one-shot it'll still fire out the projectile a split second afterwards but none of the clips show it doing this. It technically could have one that disappears when it hits someone and the slash itself just combos into it but I don't think it's very likely. It definitely paints at least a little bit on its own though judging by the clip that starts at around 0:47.
Something that was very hard to tell was how the horizontals work. Unless I'm forgetting something, the only time the Inkling is shown using them is at a clip at 0:52 while they're up super close to the camera... You see them horizontal slash twice, then dash up to an Octoling and one-shot. It looks difficult to tell anything about them at first but you can notice a few things after the camera pans.
The range on this attack doesn't look too bad for what I was expecting. It's hard for me to eyeball things like this but I'd imagine this is Stamper horizontal range, maybe a little shorter. It also probably paints pretty well seeing as the first swipe you see paints all around the user's feet and it seems to make a fairly consistent line. Matches Wiper paint more than anything. It is worth noting though that there's some chance it's even longer-range than the paint trails in that trailer imply since if the center of a Splatana horizontal collides with something, the shock wave basically stops there.
The big thing of note here is the damage. The Octoling that gets attacked here seems very weak before getting one-shotted, and I can't imagine it missed a shot there...so it's probably a three-shot, sadly. There is at least some slim chance that the first shot went over the Octoling's head or that small distance the Inkling walked was enough to go from being outside of to within the range to hit, and the former would explain the paint behind the Octoling before they get splatted, but I really doubt that. Kind of wish it was a two-shot since Stamper horizontals aren't fantastic on their own but maybe it'd be too strong or kind of against the point of the weapon. If I were to take a wild guess it probably deals 40 damage.
Other stuff I have less to say about. Everyone on X (formerly Twitter) is saying it has Suction Bomb and Big Bubbler. Really cool kit honestly. I've kinda wanted Big Bubbler on Wiper since I really thought about it and it fits great here too. Will give my thoughts on a second kit later. Its strafe speed doesn't seem like anything too crazy but it doesn't seem that bad. The thing seems to have a very fast charge time, but the charge attack itself has a lot of windup and a lot of cooldown, which honestly is fair enough for how quick it can cover so much distance.
Regardless, this thing seems like a lot of fun! Very excited to start using it.
