While I personally think there's a lot of potential for Tableturf to grow and improve, I don't think that's something that's going to happen if it stays as an extra side mode.
It really needs the opportunity to have its own spinoff game instead but I doubt that will ever happen so I'd rather have the devs focus on something else for S4.
I wouldn't complain if they did decide to bring it back though.

It can return, but it shouldn't be as grind-focused as it is now, having to defeat each character on level 3 a whopping 30 times just to get their card sleeves is kind of annoying. To me, side modes should not be grind-focused at all, they should just be something that you can just get done in 10 minutes or so.

It's only grind-focused if you want to get every single sleeve in the mode
and, like, sure? but if you want to have everything just for the sake of it then you're kind of asking for a grind

Needs online battle functionality. If it doesn’t get that, it’s not worth the effort.

While I don't really care if it stays or leaves, I think there's too much work put into it to really just throw it away. It's not like Squid Beats or the Gamepad minigames where they're just kinda there, Tableturf was expected to be an entirely new thing that could stand with something like Salmon Run. I think it'll come back but with some changes, like being able to buy packs outright instead of getting them through the Catalogue or Alterna. Actual matchmaking and a dedicated building for it would definitely be appreciated.

I'm not naturally inclined towards CCGs, and one that's functionally single player only like Tableturf never even had a chance to leave a good impression on me. I'll dabble in it once in a great while but it's hard to find motivation to play online when it typically goes like:
- Enter Tableturf pool
- Start lobby
- Wait, usually upwards of 30 minutes
- Get curbstomped
- Opponent leaves
- Either wait longer or give up
...and that's not very enticing when, y'know, the CORE GAME is right there waiting for me.
Actual online matchmaking is the biggest problem that needs addressing right now. How can I comment on any sort of balance issues or other problems with the mode without a chance to play it?

It would also make a great mobile game tie-in, but there's no way Nintendo would sign off on that.

While I haven't played Tableturf much, it does have its enthusiasts. I wouldn't mind it returning in the next game, but not if it takes development time away from more universally-used features.

It may just go the way of the arcade games in Splatoon 1, but who knows, Nintendo works in mysterious ways.

Tableturf was a cute minigame, but I felt like games were too often decided by turn 4-5. I had fun with it for a bit but I don't have any interest in revisiting it, I'd rather see new things.

I don't like playing tableturf, but I don't just want it gone cause I know people like it.
I'd prefer something simpler to pass the time or just more time allocated to making better singleplayer campaign or story for the game.
I wouldn't mind it staying if it doesn't detract from the development of other aspects of Splatoon.

Yeah, I had a similar thought since it feels like Tableturf could very easily be it's own separate small game.
It's not that hard to imagine how it would work as a mobile game either but it doesn't seem like Nintendo is interested in doing something like that for Splatoon.

while tableturf does have its fans, i don't feel like it has enough fans to warrant coming back for splatoon 4. those who do want to stick with it will probably just be able to stick with the splatoon 3 version; i feel like the existing audience for it is already dedicated enough that it wouldn't be that inconvenient, given that i don't really believe splatoon 3 will ever stop seeing play to a significant degree either way
it's just not a concept i could see them really expanding on in splatoon 4 at all, and feels like it would just be a pretty boring inclusion that could much better be filled by something new. i would love to see a tableturf mobile game though, that is absolutely warranted and would get a much larger audience than i think its reappearance in splatoon 4 could get

Others have echoed this already but tableturf is sooo ideal for a mobile game. That would free it from being tied from any core game AND ALSO I might actually play it. I love tableturf as a concept but when I sit down to play splatoon I am there to play the main game of splatoon. If it was a mobile game I could just fiddle with in my spare time? I'm sure I'd have all the sleeves by now, lol.

I haven't actually touched tableturf at all, but I don't mind that it's there. In an ideal world we'd have tableturf and another side mode/mini game, like bringing back Squid Beats or something. I see it as being there for when you feel like taking a break from the normal gameplay loop. It is kinda weird there's no online matchmaking, though

I feel like they wanted it to be a new mode like salmon run, but then they didn't treat it like one (*cough* online matchmaking) and so it ended up turning into a side mode.

I assume their thought process for not adding online matchmaking was because they didn't want to split the player base between different modes and rotations.
Pretty sure they had the same reasoning for making challenges a limited time rotation instead of always being accessible.
