From the various Twitter and tumblr updates, we've learned about some of the wide variety of enemies in the Splatoon single player campaign. This thread will be a place to house all information regarding these characters, as well as the various strategies to deal with them.

Well, then, let's start with the basics!

Octotroopers

These guys are the most basic troops of the Octarian army. They seem to come in a variety of roles. Some are capable of hovering through the air, while others are grounded. They sometimes guard specific spots instead of wandering around looking for trouble.

While individually weak due to low health and a slow rate of fire (the projectiles themselves are also very slow and can be easily avoided), they are often encountered in groups. Luckily, they're not very bright--ducking into your own ink renders you completely invisible to them, and they're easily distracted by thrown objects. Octotroopers can't move at the same time, so be sure to watch for moments when they're vulnerable!

These are octodivers. They're able to hide in enemy ink, and Pop out at a moment's notice!

A great way to deal with them is to spray ink wherever you see enemy ink. This will force octodivers to pop up to the surface, where they can be dealt with as you would deal with the regular octotroopers.

Octolings
Octarian Fighters, considered to be the Octopus equivalent of Inklings.
They are capable of switching form between Octopus and Humanoid, as far as we know, only female Octolings can switch between Octopus and humanoid form, there's been no news if Male Octolings exist.

Octolings are equipped with Ink guns, and bombs.
As with them being the equivalent of Inklings, it is most likely that they behave similarly, so treating them as any other inkling should be effective.

Easy Pickings
Octolings seem to have generally low HP, and they aren't too precise with their shots, but don't let that lower your guard, as they can take you down when you least expect it, they seem to work better in pairs.

- Octolings actually can't see you when your under the ink, use that to your advantage for a sneak attack!

They also seem to throw a splatterbomb whenever they see you, so be on the look out for it, and make sure you don't get hit. a few good shots will finish them with ease.

Dang, they all look really cool. Octotroopers really confuse me though. What are they? Where did they come from?
I also really hope we can play as Octolings in some mode or way.

Octotroopers are just the weakest, most basic forces of the Octarians. Octarians seem to grow in strength based on the number of tentacles they have. Octotroopers, having only one tentacle, are the weakest of the weak. Some have 2, and those are much more dangerous. Octolings have 8 tentacles (2 arms, 2 legs, and 4 in their hair) showing that they're far and away the most elite of the Octarian forces, the only ones able to take on humanoid shapes and fight on even ground with Inklings.

Well, when a mommy and daddy Octarian love each other very much...

In all seriousness, from what I can tell, all of the Octarians are the same race of Octopus people. But most of them are so weak they can't form more than a single tentacle for a body. So as far as I can tell, the only real difference between an Octotrooper and an Octoling is how powerful they are, and thus how much control they have over their bodies.

With Inklings, they all master the ability to freely change forms between squid and humanoid by the age of 14, but this obviously isn't the case with Octarians. I don't know if maybe this is an ability all Octarians used to have and lost, or what. Perhaps being driven underground after their loss to the Inklings in the great war has caused their race to basically start withering away.
