Can someone please explain the mentality of players in ranked? I see people in RM off thinking they are playing TW... actually that's all gamemodes, the Rainmaker Carrier running away from their team or vice versa, Players refusing to stand of the tower or protecting it.

Assuming you are in Rank A or above, I believe there is one reason for this occurrence:

They are afraid of losing rank. My point is that they're constantly afraid of losing their precious A or S rank. In TW, there is nothing to lose, merely you don't get as much points. In RM, however, each decision they feel could impact how their rank is in the game. To them, their rank is the only thing that shows how good/bad they are, and they will keep it no matter what. This could also mean that they're afraid of making their whole team lose, too.

the issue with TC has been a huge frustration for me as well, ever since i got in S rank i often had my whole team refusing to ride the tower so of course i have to do it but you can already guess that i get splatted in either 10 seconds or after awhile and my team is no where near that tower -.- it had been a huge issue for me to the point that i really didn't know how to play in this mode anymore until some people around here gave me some advice on it and it does work! :D but i share your frustration with TC dude >->

Pft, because why play objective when they can obviously just run off and get kills for their sweet montage?

But on a more serious note, there's multiple reasons and factors on why people do that. What @NerdiestNerder said is partially correct in some people are afraid to lose their rank and all that. Another reason being a lot of people play it like...well...they put too much attention to the Solo in Solo Queue. Some people ignore and honestly just farm for specials thinking that will be the best thing to do...for some reason.

Some people don't think they ever have to try to push the objective even when it's clear that they can. Some people, as soon as they get the lead, they stop playing and choose trying to defend for the rest of the 3 minutes or something like that, which can lead you to lose, too. And then other times? You have people who are legit afraid to push the objective because they don't want to be splatted. So...they just don't.

You deal with this even up in X rank so...that's Solo Queue for you

Play enough solo and you'll realize how literal players take the "solo" in solo queue.
If you read enough salt in dedicated places, you'll find the same pattern. Players who think they already know it all, and head into the ranked modes already thinking they're the MVP of the team, and as such, either get too careless, rush in, and lose all the fights, or push too soon, or not at all, because that's "not my job" and go for splats instead - so they push far into enemy territory, trying to rack up those sweet kills, while the RM on the other side of the map is about to get dunked. They also tend to have a severe phobia of the "ouch" button, so if their icon gets crossed out, assume there's at least one player waiting to take you out next.

Then there's those who try to take control of the team whenever. You'll notice them spamming "This way" far too often, whenever they spot an enemy, whenever they don't have to do anything else, if you see that squid, you'll have a hard time focusing. Luckily, I don't see the over-communicators around much.

And then there's the savior. That one squid who has amazing chemistry with you, moves according to player advantage, and "boo-yah!"s you whenever you help take down enemies that were blocking their path, or help take the lead (back). You want this kind of player on your party, you want players who actually try to make teamwork happen, and understood that even in "solo" queue, you end up on a TEAM of four players, and need to communicate and work as a team, even with the little communication options that are available. They lose a fight and notice the enemy going to shark? They say "ouch" twice to warn us. If only people listened.

Some players will fall back a little when there's a 2v3, or 3v4, or even player count-fight going on, so it's safe to superjump back into action. If you see these players, make a mental note to thank them later. They're not being cowardly, they are trying to reel back in as many players as they can before returning to the fight (most likely I suppose. I assume the better).

But at the end of the day, solo ranked modes are a mixed bag. You don't know what types of player personalities (and comps) you're being dealt beforehand, and you gotta try and make the best out of it. Always try to learn from your ranked experiences, so you don't fall into the same pitfall most solo Q warriors fall into - and make sure to learn different weapon's roles, strengths, and weaknesses - and learn to judge when it's safe to push, and learn different routes you can take when returning, or pushing farther too.

Play as if you got nothing to lose (but don't get too careless either). While it's frustrating to get cracks or maintain, or even de-rank - if you always play with the possibility of LOSING more than just that one match, every match, you'll just stress yourself out, and have an overall worse experience.

(Edit: Whoops, didn't notice I used the strikethrough BB code wrong again. Cursed be my lame brain)

Well, first you do have to ask, if you aren't directly interacting with he main objective, try to see if they may be indirectly helping out.

Rainmaker and Tower Control aren't just a simple tug of war. Flanking to clear the way with a sneak attack, inking turf to ready a special, these are things people can and is sometimes beneficial to do.

Now, if they are neither contributing directly or indirectly, then yah, they're inept at the objective.

I actually had a few more reasons, but I decided to write each reason out completley before the next, so I ended up forgetting all the others one except for one...:)

I know I don't always interact directly and for example inking path for the rainmaker is helpful and something that not enough people do, but they tend to do it when the team is being thrashed due to being down a man.

Well, those that are afraid to be splatted should just squid up and just help out in some way. I don't care how many times I get splatted, as that's the least of my concerns when I'm trying to rank up.

A perfect example of a Rainmaker match that went right: I carried the Rainmaker and followed a safe path that my teammate have made, even following said teammate because they knew the right path, the result being a quick win for our team.

Another example of a successful Rainmaker match: I have made it a requirement for myself to protect teammates who are carrying a Rainmaker, when we were making a push, opponents constantly tried to splat my teammate that was carrying the Rainmaker, little did they know I was escorting the Rainmaker carrier to the podium, so all of the opponents who tried this got splatted.

Bottom line, to be successful in Ranked matches, you have to be brave.

Basically it’s gonna be like this until X rank

I hate getting the Rainmaker because I suck with it. My brain kind of panics and it isn't something you can really practice except maybe in Private battle. If nobody is going for it though I grab it.

Sometimes it seems like nobody else ever looks at their map to see what is going on.

Sometimes I play because I'm stressed and realize because of it I'm playing like a moron.
