Under specific sets of circumstances.
  • I have splatted someone who has already seabagged me during the match.
  • I am doing dangerously well with CRB or Dread Wringer. (If you know, you know.)
  • Other people in the lobby are doing it. (I generally will not join squid parties during a match. Celebrating a successful Salmon Run shift is fair game, though.)
  • None of the situations above necessitate that I check for nearby threats first.

Only once, to that guy who had their Splashtag username set to "SquidbagMe". I mean if you say so!

...I guess you could also count the few times when I've gotten a team wipe right before a knockout, but I view that less as squidbagging and more a squidparty. More of a "yay, we just guaranteed a win, let's celebrate!" over trying to taunt or mock the other team, but really the only difference is how I personally view it. Need a little disclaimer that's like "If you see this on the kill cam it was unintentional this was JUST for me and the teammate who started it"

HMMMM.... Well, yes I do squidbag, but for revenge. When a guy has splatted me 50 times already, I begin to hunt them down, jut so I can squidbag them :3. If I see people goofing off during turf war, I'll definitely join in, but if it's anarchy battle or salmon run, then no.

I used to squidbag for most of the same reasons that people have already listed here.
That was almost a year ago now though, I don't do it anymore.
I think I just decided to focus more on winning the match itself than trying to "get them back" or anything.
If I want to get them back then I'll just do it by winning the game and not wasting my time squidbagging when I should be pushing ahead and watching where the enemy team is.
I have considered doing it sometimes but I never go through with it because I really just don't care enough.

I have exactly twice to people I don't already know as a response to them squidbagging me. Normally don't do it but felt especially unhappy that day. I don't really hold any inherent disrespect towards any of my teammates or opponents so there's no point unless it's to someone who's squidbagged me beforehand in which case their mental probably sucks anyways as is.

If I come across someone I know or something dumb happens where I want to pop off then I usually just stand there or walk around and do nothing. Much more fun, no reason people could get upset by it as opposed to "lmao why is he doing that"

* also there are squid parties which don't count and i normally just kill myself repeatedly instead

Discounting squidparties (which are mandatory to join in), no, but kind of recently I've come around to the idea of viewing it as playful/celebratory rather than toxic/mean-spirited. I don't know when or why I started feeling that way; I think one day it happened to me in open and for some reason I just... found it so funny, like, it's impossible to be mad at that, it's so silly, look at them, they're just a little inkblob so happy/excited/celebrating their victory!! good for you!!

I would still never do it from the standpoint of 'the joke's only funny if everyone is in on it' and a lot of people still both use and perceive it as a negative thing, but I can kind of see how, among friends/people who know each other and have an understanding, it can just be a way of being playfully teasing and silly with each other.

As a bonus having this perspective makes me generally immune to anyone's legitimate attempts to do psychic damage to me via squidbagging, lol

I only really ever squidbag if someone else did it to me first, but I'm starting to knock off that habit because I want to be better than that. I know some people use the excuse "it just looks funny" or "it's a tactic to make people play worse" but no matter how you look at it, people who say those things still know the stigma behind it and choose to do it anyway. I don't care if it's just a silly video game, I don't appreciate people going out of their way to antagonize me.

With that said, we at Genesis Wave have signed a contract with briank913 to squidbag him the next time we see him on our turf and put him in his place. Please do not cancel us, it's just business.

I love squidbagging when I have a long fight with someone that I win, but I think it’s doubly funny if in my celebration and hubris, one of their teammates splats me in that split second. I also squidbag if I just get a good kill or many kills.
I can’t help but find a profound sense of joy in squidbagging someone and then them getting a kill on me and doing it back, there’s just something so funny and joyful about it. I find I focus more and try harder when I’m taunted personally. I know it can be seen as a toxic thing and I’m sure it can frustrate people, but there’s never hard feelings on my end. It’s a fun part of the game for me, but I don’t always do it.
As for squidpartying though, I must, at least a little. If anyone starts one up I can never leave them hanging, it goes against a sort of moral code I uphold for myself.

I prove my superiority by not squidbagging players who have squidbagged me in a match.

There is one time in my mind that sticks out though. Getting two splats in a row by throwing charged curling bombs down from a ledge. The sheer hilarity of the situation made me give in to a moment of weakness.
That and I was just recovering from a particularly awful tilt. Don't judge me too harshly!

if a player is acting particularly ****y then i do give in to the temptations sometimes when i get a particularly satisfying kill on them. the other day i was playing clam blitz against Two inkbrush clam runners that refused to fight (my least favorite kind of player to deal with in the game), and i simply could not resist squidbagging when i killed both of them with a single splashdown as they ran thoughtlessly towards our basket. i do always feel an amount of shame 5 seconds after but... sometimes it just feels warranted

i try not to do it if someone is actually trying to engage with me though, even if they're being annoying about it (eg. a sploosh dash-dancing around me is obnoxious but entirely fair, i won't taunt them after killing them for that). i don't like squidbagging at the end of a game even if victory is certain and it could be more celebratory because, idk i don't like taunting when the enemy did nothing wrong

edit: LMAO "c*cky" got censored. its a real word im not swearing i promise!
