NeoGAF and Reddit Splatoon seem to like using Discord
I lurked on the NeoGAF room with no mic and it seemed to work well. No lag and quick. Also text chat rooms so people can organize matches.
Seems to have advantages over Mumble/Skype in that it's free, there's a browser version, plus PC &...
The blaster is a hard counter to people sniping or camping from a perch on a lot of the maps in Splat Zones.
Got 16 kills to 1 death in ranked mode with it in one match on Saltspray Rig (granted it was against C-ranks).
Your opponent is also nearly a sitting duck if you get them with a disrupter.
Anyone saying this mode is trash hasn't played King of the Hill in another game before. It's crazy intense in Splatoon.
At least on Saltspray Rig/Urchin Underpass I was able to flank around and take out anyone "camping" in a certain spot and take back the point.
I'm not sure if I just got...
The seeker lets you flank enemies and cut them off so that makes up for the low stopping power since you can distract them and move in from the side.
Basically:
- They choose to fight the seeker, you hit them from the side/behind and kill them
- They choose to fight you, you hit them a bit...
Kills also knock off a good portion of another player's special gauge, so that adds value as stopping the other team from using specials or making them waste one makes a big difference in map control.
You can't base your contribution to a team solely on the number of points you score. That's important but good play with the charger may enable the rest of your team to score more points versus using a Splattershot. If the other team is getting killed more that frees up your other team members...
It should be better than mediocre because everything I've read has been very positive. Single player has been better than most of the reviewers expected as well.
It'll probably get dinged by some for the content at launch.
Looks like someone on "8Chan" translated it and it got put on tumblr

The only caveat to map-picking is you'd want some sort of pre-set list for each tournament. Strategy and good roll-outs matter and I wouldn't expect every team to practice every map/mode (especially if we get up to 20+ maps for the game after a year or so).
Early map control and quick rollouts will be more important in Splat Zones/Tower Control.
It's important in Turf Wars but there are some drawbacks to sacrificing painting your territory for early control. Building up specials is also important, and if you dominate the map early you don't...
Here's the rules for UGC, which is a Team Fortress 2 league
I guess that won't be applicable to tournaments, but they do generally allow the teams to pick the first two maps for the finals, with the final map being a neutral map picked by the tournament organizers in advance.
