Flounder Heights: A first look.

Flounder Heights: A first look.

The new map, Flounder Heights, is very interesting because it has many walls to climb, multiple levels, and lots of secret passages and gratings. This causes a variety of gameplay, and you can go into this map with almost any weapon and succeed.

From personal experience, splatling guns and all chargers except the E-Liter perform poorly on this map. Weapons like the 96 Gal. Deco and the dual squelcher are effective on this map because they have long range and their specials help them greatly, the splash wall on crucial choke points and the splat bombs for rolling around corners, getting some sneaky kills. Most blasters are effective on this map, because of the close- quarters style of the gameplay. The echolocator and bomb rushes are great on this map because there are many flanking routes. Therefore, the careful squid should always watch his/her back on this map, and peek over ledges to see if anybody is climbing. A general idea is to not rush in blindly, as you can easily be attacked by a hiding blaster or splattershot. Throw bombs and point sensors to make sure the coast is clear, THEN you can get creative with your approach.

Adding on, there are no set paths on this map. You can paint almost any wall, so swimming sideways and dropping on the unsuspecting squid is always satisfying. On the top level, there are many small dips and boxes to hide on. Be patient! Staying in squid mode for 15 seconds might be worth the kill. And remember: Your enemy might be thinking the same as you, so ask yourself what path they might take, and judge where you go off that. Sometimes getting to the battle late is an advantage, because you may catch your enemy unaware.

And don't forget to ask yourself: Are you a Kid? Or are you a Squid? You decide.
