Movement guide 101

Movement guide 101

Hello everyone, this is a Movement and Basics guide detailing a few options you can use to optimize mobility. The main concept showcased is clipping animations to maximize on speed and then gives as many simple examples as I could find in the short period of time we had with the game.

Please keep in mind the following:

Splatoon is a shooter.

I hope there is no air of inevitable success off these techs alone, I only intended to share what little I discovered in my personal experience. You will need to combine many skill based mind sets to achieve solid play and even more so at a competitive level. Here are areas in which you must explore and master on top of just ironed out mobility to reach wins:

- Map awareness, positional advantage, and turf priorities are probably some of the most important areas to grow in, with a game type like this.

- Shooting skills are clearly essential, although I will add that this game offers options like the roller class which require less precision... other than this class type though, I don't see you winning if you don't have the experience, skill, and gameplan needed to take someone out with the weapon in hand, no matter how good you are at teching your speed to maneuver seamlessly.

- Communication and team cooperation and awareness will boost the above skills and will be required in league play for teams/squads to succeed. Will you be the glue that holds your team together, or the one that weighs it down?

- Understanding the meta and all tactical advantages including gear perks and weapon load outs and all team combinations including these specifics that are ideal.

Movement options are still very important in a game like this though and should not be discounted, but they will not win you games alone. They are the means to get you from point 'A' to 'B'... once you have the map awareness to know the best "A" and best "B" to begin with. They are the means to clip seconds off your advance so you can prove your experienced shooting skills were worth the effort to rush over and save that teamate in distress. They are the beginnings of your journey to successful play but will ultimately become the icing on the shooter's cake, adding advantage at an important but tiny scale like shaving off a second here and there.

Become a 'Jack of All' and I see success in your future fellow Inklings.

If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them via message or the discussion area, and feel free to leave a rating if you think it might help others in any way. I will be posting more guides in the future once we have the full game in front of us and there's more to cover. Thank you and best of luck out there!

Informative and highly detailed commentary from the video. The rest of the guide is just good advice that promotes growth.
Great guide to movement. Even if i think i have done pretty well i haven't even considered the shiftbreaks you are doing here. I gotta go practise these as soon as possible since i have a feeling they will help me a lot.

Very good information in the video, but I don't understand the much crisper about face. I use the Y button to 180, but it does not feel natural. I change direction with a "shift cancel" - which is when you press L right? - and it does not do a 180. I'm good online, but there is some situation where I know if I did a 189 I could have defeated or challenge the enemy, but instead I die, because the Y button technique is not as natural.
Extremely helpful. I never noticed the trails before- I probably just ignored them. I wonder if they still appear with in-game stealth abilities?

Also found it interesting- does this mean that in-game stealth abilities slow down main speed when tech can have the same effect without taking up a boost slot?
Nice options analysis, highly informative. You really seem to have squeezed out everything that playground scenario had to offer. And since it was mentioned in the reviews: I like the way you talk just fine, but if you could normalize the volume that'd be great. The sound was really quiet.
Really useful !
Awesome guide! I especially liked the segment you did about stealth. Keeping your location a secret in the ink is going to be a huge component at a competitive level and the focus of this game as a whole. Staying completely unnoticeable at the expense of speed is an interesting concept that I think will continue to grow far after the release of the game. Besides teamwork and knowing the maps very well, I think this part of the game is what is going to separate the rest of the players to a much higher level. Top 5% of Splatoon players for example.
Nice techniques considering the game's not even out. I would really enjoy an updated version later on. This is useful stuff, and if animation cancels exist for switching forms then I'm curious if there's more to find.

Also I see a nitpick about your voice and will offer my opinion since I know you're just starting. It may be personal preference, but I actually prefer your style of oration (whoa fancy words). Clown voices and feigned excitement are huge turn offs for me. You didn't stumble or sound forced either which a script may work against. You knew your points and talked about them. Good job.

I will do my best to continue the hunt for more options and if all is willing an updated version of this guide with fresher visuals (who knows... maybe more colors and locations than a pre-splattered blue tutorialscape!)

I really appreciate your added support as well. I share your sentiments on false feeling deliveries, so I'll always stay true to myself in the end, and cover things in my own way. I still have room to grow I feel for delivery and editing, and hope progression will be apparent should I remake this or more in the future.

Big thanks Bellebound, that helped.
Very nice guide. Thanks for conning the game into giving you extra tutorial time while the rest of us were too busy having fun to think of it.

Minor nitpick: You might want to work on your radio voice a bit. Listening to you was informative, but a bit boring.

A fair point :D This is my first attempt but I'll certainly take that into consideration. Especially on 15minutes of mostly me talking. I can't expect myself to go full clown mode because that's just not me, but I'll try to keep it more lively in the future. Probably better that I script a bit in advance, this experience was very much on the fly.
Great guide! I really appreciate how you go into detail regarding all the various subtleties that come with clipping animations and stealth swimming.

Looking forward to future guides!
