I'm really with you on this-- I want that data to exist in a variety of ways, and I'd love some way to make learning new weapons easier sometimes with more forgiving environments, but I also don't want it to have to impact my lobbies and queues.

I feel that-- my friends finally convinced me to at least buy and try out Naut 79, and honestly? I like it on Rainmaker a lot more (which, I think, was my worst mode; I used to play Tri Nouveau on Rainmaker, so it's nice to actually bring my main to that mode). But the issue is still there...
