Pardon my ignorance, but isn't it possible to just buy new joy-cons? Or are they specifically connected to your Switch somehow?

It is possible to buy new joy cons, but they're around 69 euroes/dollers. I'm from england however, but they're still pretty expensive. My mum's giving me pocket money so i'll be able to maybe buy some new ones; maybe different colour :p
