Anybody else feel like they play significantly better with teammates?

Ever since joining comp I’ve had these frustrations during solo Q, and it’s not just “wah bad teammates” because it’s also me. In an individual level I feel like I just play better in a scrim or tournament setting. Miss fewer shots, heightened awareness, all that. Seems like a good problem to have, except almost every solo q session feels like I’m falling flat. Anybody else experience this?

Yes, definitely for me. For some reason, I've been struggling to improve even quite back to where I was at a point. But when I joined up with some other people who were also comp players, and it felt so much better. Not only because I was playing with friends which is so much more fun for me, but I genuinely felt like I was doing so much better! By alot. With better awareness of everything, taking smarter fights, fighting better, and when I'm with a team, I feel like I'm more forced to play smart because I'm working with others and not myself. Usually playing in A+ and S (trying to get better) but when I was with others, and against higher level than I'm used to, I did perfectly fine (and was not carried.)

I generally play way better when I am in an active VC of people who know how to call out. When there's a conversation being maintained, it's easy for me to play off my teammates, my awareness is better, I'm relieved of a lot of mental load, it's easier to make decisions, my own callout skills contribute more, etc. Turns out that when I play with people I know well, factors like these get enhanced.

Yes, and that's normal ! Splatoon is a team game for a reason. Without coordination, you lose a LOT of opportunities during matches. Callouts exist for a reason, and perfecting the art of speed communication wile still have it being clear and concise is key to being better as a team ! Not to mention having friends to rely on can help lift your spirits a bit. Having someone to keep you motivated is also great to avoid losing confidence and momentum when on a bad losing streak.
