Are you still running sub res?

I haven’t stayed super up to date on the s3 build meta. I know that in s2, 1 sub of bomb defense was a staple for the long list of combos it prevented, and I see it’s still pretty popular in current day s3.

I’m wondering if 1 sub of bdef is still the way to go. Mainly for weapons that fight. On the transition to s3 I know they made it so this ability no longer affects specials, which feels like a huge nerf. On release though, burst and fizzy were so popular that everyone kept running bdef. And a couple years later now I’m trying to figure out if it’s still pretty applicable, or just an old habit.

I know Slosher is always strong so that bomb combo is a threat. I see Stamper and Splash a fair amount, but iirc Stamper got an efficiency nerf so it can’t spam burst as much. And Splash isn’t on every comp anymore. Machine’s fizzy is nonexistent after they nerfed the weapon into the ground. I know lethal bomb spam is always good, but are we giving up a sub for it? I checked the numbers on the wiki (I once had a chart but alas, it is lost) and I see only about a 4-5% resistance buff from one sub.

Sub res also has that cold blooded effect; 1 sub gives 1/5th of the time off point sensors so that’s cool, but mostly just a small boon and not a deciding factor (unless maybe you’re a ninja squid user). There’s a reason they had to merge cold blooded with another ability.

From what I've discussed with other players and have also seen myself, SRU is still a nice option but not necessary or desired by a lot of weapons.
Sharking weapons seem to be the ones that like it the most but that's it.
I still use it for almost all my builds though since I like the added survivability and shortened location time. It personally feels worth it to me since it's only one sub that I'm using anyway.

I still almost always use it (mainly because idk what else to run in place of it lol) because I'm paranoid about combos. Even if it doesn't work on specials like inkjet like it did in S2. And being able to get rid of the location effect earlier is really good when I'm trying to shark.

I left it out for a while, but recently put it back in because s-blast's endlag often makes it hard to dodge bombs in time. I probably wouldn't use it on faster weapons though, or things that like playing further back.

Guess when it comes down to it is still a “value” sub for good reason, and hard for me to argue running a bit more mobility over it, as much as I want to. Though at this point it does feel easier to let go of on tight builds.

I know a lot of backline players personally really like having it because they're the ones getting bombs thrown at them the most. Decav specifically likes abilities that you get a lot of value from with only a little bit of investment so it likes running one sub of it, buuuuuuut I personally haven't run this ability in a long time. It feels like the big utility people run it for is for blocking combos like Stamper / Range Blaster / Bucket 70 hit -> outer 35 hit of bomb but those just don't pop up very often at all. I could probably count less than ten times in the last two years of me playing the game where it has for me.

It's still a good ability for the reasons I mentioned + Point Sensor shortening but I'd just rather run more Quick Respawn to enable caveman brain mode LOL

I still use it on most of my sets. Often, I find it is the difference between continuing to help my team and being sent back to the spawner in the sky.

Though most of my sets only run 1 sub of it, can't see a huge amount of use beyond that aside from more gimmicky sets. Not that I don't run some gimmicky sets every so often!

Oh, I didn't know that! I had noticed that some players seemed to drop off the marker sooner than others but didn't think much of it
