do you think next month is too soon to halt support for splatoon?

with rumors of a potential sequel on the NX it's sad to see nintendo getting ready to sweep splatoon under the rug after the hard work that's been put into it and after all the sales it's gotten

i fear once support dies next month and they eventually cancel splat fests to focus on the sequel that splatoon's player base will start dropping like flies

Well seeing as how it's just gear and weapons that's gonna stop, no, i don't think so. Balance patches and splatfests are gonna continue for quite a while, i'd say for another year. Pokemon is played a lot and the only updates they get are a few event pokemon here and there (granted it does have nostalgia on it's side). yes, some people will stop playing after the updates stop (weapons and gear that is), but the game won't outright die. splatoon is a fun game to play, even without splatfests, and the japanese players are extremely active, seeing as how they're the ones i get the majority of the time. Even if it gets played less in the west, i can see it being consistently played in japan. the game is only 7 months old and we're also getting new players because of a successful black friday. Tournaments will also continue to happen until Nintendo decides to disable the wi-fi network for the wii u, which is not anytime soon. i mean, would this question even be asked if all the gear and weapons were released day one?

Mostly this. There may be no new content, but that doesn't mean that they'll be no players.
I'll only disagree with the Japanese player part. Most copies are bought outside of Japan (about half of all copies in the US alone). Personally, I typically get more non-Japanese then Japanese players.

Considering we got weekly updates for 8 months, no, it's not too soon.

And people will keep playing the game. I mean, Smash updates are way, way more seldom, and nobody has stopped playing that yet.

Furthermore, a sequel is years away, so why worry about it now?
