hiya ! i was wondering how x rank works in splatoon 3... I was x rank in splatoon 2 but since ive moved for university i don't get to play splatoon 3 much outside of holidays so i am a bit confused on the new system: why can you access x rank when you reach s+ ?

For some reason they decided to revamp how it works. X rank no longer exits, instead when you get to s+0, you unlock x battle, which is a different game mode altogether.

The new x battle system is different from regular match in a few ways:
  • You gain or lose points after you either win or lose 3 games.
  • Weapon pool is (kinda) balanced. e.g. if there's a charger on your team, the enemy team gets a charger too.
  • Cannot be matched with players below 2k if you are above 2k.
  • Different map/mode rotation
  • You get to pick your match making region (NA/Europe or Japan)

To add onto this: the reason they separated Ranked Battle into "Anarchy Battle" and "X Battle" is so that people who want to just play the Anarchy modes don't have to play with the pressure of losing X Power, and also so that anyone who just wants to play casually doesn't have to queue with people who grind super sweaty competitive matches for rankings. They're different pools of players now!

Game developers made it so only when reaching S+ in anarchy, you unlock Rank X
When you unlock rank X you have 2 divisions you can choose and players from that region do not mix, you only fight players of the same division; It initially was made so players would have players from geography regions fight people from those regions.

Once you unlock Rank X it gives you a similar interface as S2 rank X.
-Resets power at the end of the cycle(3 months this time)
-Play 5 matches to get initial power(instead of 10)

Differences
getting lower than 1800 wont kick you from rank X. The lowest powers i have seen on twitter are 500 and people are still able to play rank X

You get kicked from rank x only at the end of the season if you are not S+10 in anarchy.

Each cycle you can change from ttk to tak and vice versa. But never change during the cycle of 3 months.

XPower is also no longer your raw matchmaking rating. You have minimums you can gain/lose after each series, which drastically reduces the usefulness of XP as a proxy for player skill.

this confused me as well cos i had a high x power and the next time i had a chance to play i was back to s... it's kinda strange how they did it so you're basically made to play anarchy until you hit s+10 in order to keep playing in x battles
