I know the this is an odd perspective, but hear me out:
I've been playing Splatoon since Spring 2018. And after awhile I started to notice many factors that go into the results of a match: your weapon and how good you are with it, the weapons of your teammates and how well they are with them, the weapon comp of you opponents and how well they can use the weapons, the "game senses" of all the players (decision making, positioning, etc.), and the maps and modes in rotation.
Out of all these important factors, you can only control for one these in Anarchy Series and X Rank, that being how good you are with the weapon that you choose. You never know how good your teammates and your opponents are with their weapons until the match starts (or it's a there are well known players in the lobby using weapons they're known for). The same can be said about the game senses of the players (Will someone camp the opponents clam basket while you're trying to defend? Will your team take 10 seconds to get on the tower, even though you have a person advantage?). While you can take the mode into consideration, the map you ended up playing on is always unpredictable, as you might play a rotation where you mostly play one map.
This is all to say that there are many factors that you cannot control and sometimes they may stack the odds against you. And when you lose in those unfavorable match ups, it feels like you're being punished for playing, either by going negative in an Anarchy Series or losing lots of points in X Rank. This can lead into an agitated mindset with the chances of losing more points going up, which also might discourage you from trying different weapons and playstyles.
So why is Anarchy Anarchy Open different? For one you have the option to know your teammates and their weapons (and possibly game sense) before starting your match, greatly reducing the factors out of your control. The other reason is that even if you are playing by yourself, you won't lose as many points, with 5 points being the max you can lost in an open match. As a result, you feel more encouraged to try different weapons and playstyles.
So yeah, that's my reasoning for liking Anarchy Open more than Anarchy Series and X Rank. Hope that makes sense.
