Hello. I've been thinking of something lately.
SendouQ. A great way to sharpen your skills, get into a form of competitive, and in this case smurf. Currently I'm one-tricking VUnder for specifically Sendou and it's been a ton a fun meeting people and just enjoying the game as of late, but this time was different. I met up with two members of a team and a friend I've played matches with here and there and we promptly waited half an hour on Open for this set. Our team was ranked Bronze and we wanted to challenge a team that was either Iron or Silver (the two ranks in between Bronze) as we figured it'd be similar, and we got it. This was the first time I'd be using gear actually made for my weapon and not the abomination that was 3 mains and 6 subs of Main Saver with Sub Power Up. We were ready and
I'm sure you can see the problem here. That is not Silver.
So naturally all of us start freaking out because we wanted a clean match and instead got thrown into the thunderdome so we just accept that "Yeah we're gonna lose but we're not gonna let it happen via knockout." Nevertheless we start playing the first match on Humpback Rainmaker and for the first minute we were actually doing something. We got a nice push and a wipeout into the first check point, but little did we know that was the last time we were making any progress because we pop the Rainmaker and right there is the Stamper Nouveau that just popped a Crab Tank. So the push is officially dead. Our Carbon and Hedit get taken out while I'm also fighting but I immediately die as well so they get the push and I begin to realize these people mean business when I see the Neo Splash prepare all three strikes to land at the same time. At this point the game completely drowns on us with us barely managing to stop a knockout from happening but not enough time for us to get a push going for Overtime.
This essentially cemented that this wasn't gonna go how we thought it was for real and just when we thought it couldn't get worse, they pull out a Carbon Roller's worst fear for Mahi Zones.
Three Torpedos And A Liter
Splatana Wiper, Rapid Blaster Deco, Custom Splattershot Jr. Our poor Carbon was cooked I could not blame them. Somehow we also decided double Slider was a good idea and to be honest it kinda was? Like Slider cheese be dammed we actually kept the zone for a good 4 minutes, and I even got proof that my gear had enough Special Power Up to cap the zone. I was happy about that, but it wasn't meant to be. We suffered our first KO of this smurfing session we walked in on and were on to our next KO of this set, Um'ami Tower Control.
I don't even have much to say on this one it was like a minute tops. Our foes even decided to pull out the Opening Gambit Nova to seal the deal it was that bad.
So I guess that's over and done with. The set is about to end with one more game and we know we're no match until we realize they're in an open VC without a limit to how many people can join. We knew this for a while now since Mahi Zones but we decided to pop the question of if we could join and they said yes.
So walk with me here; we have two teams communicating with each other in one VC for a SendouQ set, my team and I laughing our butts off about this unfortunate circumstance while the other team is having a good time too. Turns out the one Platinum badge wasn't the only thing to worry about but the entire team was all smurfs! I know somebody that wasn't us would've been pissed at this realization but it all just made sense. Eventually one of our frenemies utters verbatim "If you go all 4 sploosh it's an auto win" and our team is like, yeah we know we aren't winning this but maybe they're right maybe this is the path, so here we are in Robo ROMen Rainmaker for this finale.
Two VSplooshes, two Neo Splooshes. A bunch of wails and hammers against a Liter, Sorella Tent, .52 Gal, and yet another vanilla Sploosh and somehow, THIS GAME was the closest game we had between all of us. Everyone's just losing their mind at this point I get labeled "Best beakons in NA" because I'm running the silly all sub power up gear, and we're out popping these people on the Rainmaker because it's all Sploosh why wouldn't you? I even almost managed a quad during that game it was that insane. We even had the lead via a flank for a good 3 minutes until eventually the inevitable came, they took the lead back, we lost.
But dammit we went out fighting. It was magical to see this play out everyone's going mad we are all just having a good time and at this point I'm not mad that I'm essentially gonna get thrown back into Iron. That set was so worth my time and a testament to why I love Splatoon so much.
So yeah, that's what I've been thinking about. You ever get players and games so wild you can't help but know you're gonna lose and just laugh it off? Would love to hear about it.
