Their Splatfest themes are always more interesting compared to the NA & EU ones.
I'm a seafood person, so it's pretty obvious which team I'm rooting for. :P

I get the impression that Seafood is going to be the very popular option. I guess Mountain Food wins by default, if the results are anything like Pirates vs. Ninjas. :P

Oh, they mean food created on land versus food grown in the sea. I thought this was kind of random seeing "Mountain" vs. "Seafood." It might as well be Grassy Field vs. Pizza or Desert vs. Dessert. No wait, that's not random enough.

Hmm, I do love me my seafood... and I've never really tried "mountain" food. I think I know where I stand on this.
I forget, when was the last JP Splatfest? Because either I'm going senile, or it's been less than 3 weeks since the last one.

So the maps for splat fest are Kelp Dome, Hammerhead Bridge and Museum d'Alfonsino. (Although it felt like it was just the first two since that's all I played for over 2 hours!... I just played on the museum, I think it's a new favourite so I've been wanting to go to it the whole splatfest)
I swear this game has one of those Monster Hunter desire sensor thingies haha...
For popularity it's kind of hard to say, I haven't faced my own team so it doesn't look like we have a majority, but looking at miiverse it seemed to be pretty close and I feel like I'm seeing slightly more mountains than seas in the pictures. I'm pretty sure the popularity will be pretty close this time, maybe within 5 percent at most?
As for wins, I think it's usually hard to tell since I'm just one person in several groups. I think I currently have more wins than losses, but it isn't a big difference yet.

Certainly, if this theme was used in North America, it'd be awfully one-sided. The continent is a lot bigger, meaning you have tons and tons of people who live far away from the ocean and thus would rarely eat seafood. There's also a negative stigma of seafood, at least in the United States and Canada, where it's depicted as gross and unappetizing because it's slimy and different from the terrestrial food they always eat.
It's why we put iodine in our salt: A lot of North Americans eat so little seafood that they develop iodine deficiencies otherwise.

On another note... It really sucks when the Japanese have a Splatfest when we don't. It's been taking forever to find matches tonight with just NA and EU players. :( I always play late at night and I'm usually playing with Japanese players but they're region locked tonight and it's been taking forever to find players. *sigh*
