Matchmaking Glitch

I was playing Rainmaker earlier today and noticed that, although there were only 7 people playing, the game decided to start. When the match began, it was a 3v4 and unusually, instead of showing a crossed-out squid at the top (a normal DC), it shown a squid outline like missing players in a custom match. Even by the end of the game when we somehow won, it did not show a fourth player on my team. Has anyone had this type of glitch/know why it would have occurred.
