new sub weapon idea : sponge bomb!

View attachment 8377A bomb that sticks to any surface, lying dormant until the user or one of their teammates shoots it: causing it to explode.Explosion deals 180 damage (regular bomb damage), with a large explosion radius reaching around 1.4 lines of range (little larger than suction bomb radius).
While it can burst after just a single shot from the user, the enemy team has to deal 400 damage to the sponge to break it.
Costs 65% of the user's ink tank.

a little thing me and some friends have been conceptualizing; just thought id post this here now that a lot of people are moving over, myself included lmao. the idea behind this sub from the start was to basically make a splatoon-ifed c4, while keeping it more interesting than just a remote ink mine. with the idea of shooting it to detonate, however, it kind of turned into its own whole thing, which we ended up liking a lot!
anyway lmk what you think

this feels a lot like bubble blower.It feels a bit too strong, so i'd probably make the user's team need to do like. at least 80 damage to it, or the enemy team need to do less damage to destroy it, because 400 to avoid getting disintegrated for stepping in the wrong place at the wrong time!
this still feels very strong, so maybe a limit to the amount that can be placed by one player to one at a time like a torpedo, or at least give it a deployment time before it can be activated.
Still like the idea tho i'd wanna see it discussed(also feel free to correct some of my corrections possibilities)

omg i remember back when super chumps were shown off in the promo image i literally thought they would be a sub weapon that worked just like this. i do really like the idea, though yeah i think it should be a bit harder to use

60-80 damage is what i'd assume to be necessary to blow it up (back when i assumed chumps would be this, i thought they'd give it to the L3-D because it could do enough damage to activate it with a single burst shot), and my idea about how to balance it around enemies would be to make it so that it's the same amount of damage for enemies to remove it too, BUT it still blows up! so they need to stay a safe distance from it while defusing it. idk whether that would fully work bc something like sploosh might be literally unable to defuse it safely? though maybe you could give it a small delay so sploosh / dapples could use their mobility to get away from it in time. idk! but it's a fun idea to think about

I like the concept! Personally I think I'd adjust the damage values to activate/break it, since for a sub it seems kinda strong. Maybe 50-100 to activate it and 200-300 to break? But otherwise this is super cool! Love the icon mock-up :D

thanks! i do agree that its a little overtuned tbh, these values feel more fair. and ty for the input!

ooh the limit idea is a good idea. maybe two could work nicely? i think just having one active at a time would be a little too limiting, but its still better than having like five out at a time lmao.also the deployment time is a neat idea too, would definitely be good to make it easier to react to, since i can imagine a lot of people would just throw it and burst it as soon as it lands. thanks for ur input too!

one thing about limiting how many you can have out that i think would be really interesting is: i think if you throw one when you've reached the limit, it should work like inkmine, where it detonates the least-recent one you'd placed. that would give an extra strategic option of, if an enemy is near the first bomb you've placed, and you're too far away to shoot it directly, but you've got a lot of ink in your tank, you could throw out a new one to remotely detonate that bomb from anywhere

imo a cap of 2 would probably be best, 3 would probably be a bit too much and would be harder to set up that kind of strategy

I disagree with this one. The idea looks fine but if you can just activate it by chucking a new one, you don't need to shoot them.
OR, if we do go this route, a way to nerf this new way of exploding it could be to have it explode like a burst bomb instead of its normal effect if destroyed by chucking

i think it'd be balanced because it's presumably a sub that would take a lot of ink (i'm thinking a minimum of suction bomb's ink tank, maybe even up to beakon's), so it's an option that's only available to you if you aren't in the middle of doing anything else with your ink tank. and in such a fast-paced game like splatoon 3 i think it's a safe assumption that players will generally not want to sink that much ink into that when they could take just a few shots instead. it's also hard to envision a situation where you'd be able to know when the right time to do it would be anyway, you'd have to have line of sight on the bomb and its surroundings while being too far away to shoot it yourself, which kinda sounds like you're just out of position lol
