onmechanics of Ink strike

In regards to the Ink Strike Special: Does the ink strike mark grow with the expanding swirl of ink? Or is it an single static splash of ink when the swirl start or soon after it starts.

I ask because I've noticed that if i fire into the swirling ink strike animation I can start reclaiming that ink before the animation ends.

The circle grows on the pad's map, but that might just be an effect.
Also, this could just be lag throwing off my perceptions.

I noticed the same thing too. The ink strike is just a hitbox effect, but it's not a repeating ink strike. It lays down ink radially from the centre once, which is why you can cover it with ink while the strike is still going on, but the giant whirlwind of ink that's coming down from the heavens is a giant hitbox for you.

So yes, it grows, but it's like laying down a sheet, rather than an actual object spewing out ink.
