I happened to be on discord when I found a link to reddit which shows off this new tech called Rainwalking

Here's the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/splatoon/comments/3pvhdr/interesting_rainmaker_technique/

Seems pretty useful and a lot faster in a pinch, the only problem is you cannot see where you're going (because you're shooting backwards and using the recoil as momentum in the intended direction) but you can catch people off guard with it and may even net you the lead.

Reminds me of an inferior version of rocket jumping from other FPS games. Even though you do move faster, I think not being able to shoot or see in front of you is a severe downside. Unless you've got your entire team with you to say when to turn and start attacking the enemy, or the entire enemy team is dead, I wouldn't recommend it. You'll die way too quickly if something goes wrong.

I wonder how that speed matches up compared to swimming with swim speed up. Depending on the situation, you wouldn't need to see what's in front of you if your teammates have already cleared the path for you.

It looks like it'll have some minor applications here and there but in most scenarios, you're probably going to want to lay a siege until your team can clear a path for you to push forward. You might outwit a single player who's going after you with this method for about a second or two but don't expect it to work if you've got more people on your tail. I imagine it would be most useful to get that break into the lead when all hope is lost.

I wouldn't go as far as considering this a Rainmaker tech or a tech at all. Seems more like a quirky thing to do to throw an opponent off to try and get slightly more distance when handling the Rainmaker and if you have no teammates around.

I believe this will be useful when there is nobody to clear path for you and you'll lose rainmaker anyway. If you are sure to die, why not try grabbing some extra points?

This tech is pretty much useless in most situations, I was testing it out with a friend and even though it paints under you the force from the shot will push you into enemy ink, maybe if the area isn't properly inked you have a chance but other than that no. The key to winning rainmaker matches is variation in tactic, sure this move will work once but people will catch on and exploit the weakness you have. Maybe it'd be good at the start of a match to get that 10-20 point lead but this won't always work and you'll need to be prepared for that.

So yeah seems pretty useless to me.

I agree with you in some points. More or less the start of the match to get an extra 10-20 points which is wonderful and can make or break the match as a whole. I also see squid running and swim speed be useful in it but investing in that alone; you're insane xD

I'll have to test this out myself with friends to see if it would change my own personal tactics at all, seeing as I'm a Rainmaker player who pushes through chaos to get that point my team needs; otherwise I see it as something to do with friends in a private match for giggles. Then again though that's just me.
