Should I be thinking this?

I know this is a dumb post, but bear with me. I plan on playing Splatoon competitively, and I have one concern. Of course, I am obviously going to communicate with a team. I've never been the most comfortable with voice chat, because I sound a lot younger than I am, and I tend to get crap for it. I feel like my team would just make fun of me. Should I be thinking this, or am I just being ridiculous?

It should be fine imo.

honesty if you let your team know that you are uncomfortable with your voice and they still give you **** for it. then you would probably be better off playing with someone else who would treat you better.

Well, I don't have much experience with finding teams to play with, but in a game like splatoon, teams will probably be more permanent. So its likely that the team you will go with will be close friends, and probably won't mind. If they make fun of your voice, then they probably aren't a good team in the first place. I'm sure that you will be able to find a team that will accept your voice. Good luck!

I had the same fears, well slightly different, I just absolutely hate my voice, but my squad is nice and friendly and assured me theres nothing wrong with it.
So, Ik the squad I'm in wouldn't make fun of you! Our ages range too ^w^

I don't think anyone should need to worry about how they sound over voice chat, as long as you are clear and able to be understood it shouldn't matter. As others have said, if people are making fun of you because of how you sound, then it's probably an indicator that you need to find a better group to play with.

That being said, sometimes people will poke fun at others in a friendly way, as long as you're comfortable with it and they don't take it too far then it can be okay. Some of my best friends are the ones who give me the most crap and vice versa. Just make sure you understand the difference between bullying and just messing around, as obviously you don't want to hang around with a bunch of people who are making you feel bad about yourself all the time.

From what I can tell, most of the Splatoon community seems quite friendly so I highly doubt you will find a group that will pick on you like that. The only reason I can think somebody would do this is because they are just poking fun at you in a friendly way. But if it bothers you then you could just let them know it makes you uncomfortable and I'm sure they will stop!

I have a really weak voice too that sounds younger than I really am.
People had judged me for it (not Splatoon players, but just generally).
Just find people you're cool with and they won't mind how you sound. Otherwise, just find another group of people if they keep bothering you after telling them to stop.
People tend to hate their own voices while their friends think it sounds good. It might be the same case for you.

I always hated my voice on video or sound recording and tend to avoid it if possible. I also never used a headset for gaming. But i just jumped in and honestly i haven't even given it a second thought until i saw this thread. So far i've not heard any remark about it (my team probably just gossips when i am not around :P). So i wouldn't worry about it and just give it a try.

This is the main reason I stay away and/or opt out of voice chat in games. I saw so many people defending Splatoon's lack of built in voice chat because they wouldn't have gotten it if it supported it (The majority of Splatoon Players are new to the genre as well. Nintendo seems to be very good at drawing people into gaming who necessarily wouldn't ever play games.) I am pretty very few people like how they actually sound.

Voice chat in games don't usually play back your voice on your end.
