I have no clue if this is official or not (doesn't seem like it, but a ton of effort was put into it), but the Saga Prefecture in Japan currently has a squid-themed event in the latter half of November with a distinct Splatoon flavor called "Sagakeen." Take a look at it here.

Saga Prefecture is a fishing district known throughout Japan for its squids, which is why they're the ones doing this and why so much of it is food-related.

That explains everything! Well not really, but I kept seeing "Sagakeen" in the Splatoon font, and I wasn't sure what that was. I know Splatoon is still called "Splatoon" in Japan, so I was wondering what this all was.

Looks pretty cool. It's just like one of those awesome Japan only Pokemon things I'll never get to go to. It's cool, but depressing at the same time. :/

Holy... now that is pretty cool. Looks like they're going all-out too, judging from the pictures. Kinda seems a bit small for such a big thing, but it's only open til Tuesday & it isn't even the main event, so I guess it all works out.

That article you linked to seems to imply that it's tied into the Mountain- vs. Sea- Food Splatfest. Not enough to make it official, but I wouldn't be surprised if the people behind the event timed it to coincide with the Splatfest.
