I was asked to come up with a list. if you think of stuff/know things are done, this will be edited to include or delete things
General related:
1. Settle on a name
2. Seriously, settle on a name
3. Reach out to TOs with a more complete plan before it goes public, out of courtesy and to better work with them/to get feedback.
4. Test out commentary stuff. run private test streams
5. Stress test any and all programs used, for rankings, rosters, tourneys, etc. with mock teams and setups to see what you can do and what will happen.
6. Assign staff to more specific areas of work for when actually running the league.
7. School people in those duties assigned at 6.
8. Make and setup popular chat or mooch off another popular chat (Splatnasium, Lounge, etc.)
9. Play games with each other (preferably not splatoon)/other staffwide fun activities. This will help staff chemistry.
10. Focus all discussion here/in PM so it isn't lost in Discord (seriously who reads chat history?)
Framework Related
1. Name and establish divisions. get a number of how many to have.
2. Decide and design exactly how ranking and results stuff works/steal a good ranking or results setup from some other league that we can use
3. Establish seasons, season length, etc.
4. Decide to work with established tournaments or not.
5. Decide which teams to work with and reach out to them. (invited teams) Wait until after it goes public to actually reach out.
6. figure out end of season invitations
7. Figure out how to reward/honor teams who do well
8. Decide how matches will be assigned, when they will be played, and how rescheduling works
9. Decide on other events that will be run as a part of the league
10. make any deals/coalitions you need to
Rules related.
1. Study tournament rules, adapt what you can
2. Study signup rules, adapt what you can
3. Figure out ways to punish teams for league specific stuff
4. Figure out how to punish teams for not doing their matches
5. Figure out how to handle one team being unwilling to reschedule at all
6. Figure out how teams setup getting their games commentated on: the formalities and specifics
7. Establish rules for teams that give advance warning for not being able to play for an extended period of time
8. work out kinks/stress test rules in the halls of debate and with dummy setups
9. Consider long term rules
10. Work out exactly how matches will be given out and how much time each team will have to play a match.
Misc.
