where one randomly selected team has to push a cart or box or whatever item to the oppontent's base line to win while the opposing team tries to prevent them from doing so

of course we might need some specific maps for this game mode as it would be far too easy on something like walleye warehouse and way too complicated on something like saltspray rig

We have this. Or, rather, we will. It's called Tower Control, and was announced during the direct as a future ranked mode. The only immediate difference is it is not one team attacking while the other defends, but the Tower (cart) can be pushed by either team, and the first into the other's base wins.

I don't think it would work, honestly. Not in Splatoon..

yeah tower control is basically symmetrical payload, really looking forward to seeing how it works in a symmetrical format and with the whole ink thing

well, they found how to make it work by making it symmetrical

Not the biggest fan of payload in Tf2, but the more game modes, the better.

There is. It's called Tower Control.

In Tower Control, there's a neutral Tower that rides on a rail. The rail runs from one side of the map to the other. The objective of the game is to move the tower toward enemy territory by standing on it. It is similar in this context in that you have to move something toward the enemy's base to win.
