Why are people switching to zones only?

I saw a lot of movement towards splat zones only from well known comp players recently and I was wondering why. Is there something specifically wrong with the other modes, or is zones just better and why?

It's usually because of a couple factors that the other modes suffer from than Zones like:
RM is Restrincting - A few Weapons and Specials aren't as good in the mode as it's mostly towards DPS (Shooters and Splatlings for example) like popping the shield and affecting the user carrying it, RM stalling and a lack of good Map Modes to play other than Undertow (for example)

TC - Suffers the same like Rainmaker (Brushes struggle to deal with the Tower + lack of maps) and the Passive Special Advantage that gives the Attackers faster Special while the defenders get none to retake while they have specials flying towards them

CB - Just Kraken Cheese is really annoying because it's annoying to deal with it and attacking it's (Coolered) Teammates that can get a 40-60 point lead and that's about it afaik

Zones does have Slider cheese but it doesn't do a lot other than add a penalty, but in general it's just somewhat feels well rounded as there's a lot of weapons you can play on the mode, Clams would as well if Kraken Cheese wasn't a thing

So, if I understand, zones provides more variety that other modes don't, has an objective that doesn't elimate several specials or weapons or provide advantage to attacking teams. Those are the main points, yes? That's kind of unfortunate imo, since I think zones is the most boring of all the objectives.

Yea pretty much, I really also really like Clams because it's pretty unique, you don't have to push too far in or the objective isn't in the mid itself, removing the ability of jumping to a Kraken would be so nice for the mode because I do think it performs really well in 3 and somewhat offers the same/similar variety like in Zones.

You don't even have to remove the ability to jump to the Kraken, just make it so you lose your clams, same as activating Kraken in the first place. That way, Kraken could still be used to get in (which I believe is the devs' intention) but their jumps won't be useful until they're vulnerable.

That's another interesting way to deal with Kraken Cheese, I like that as well
