Just register somebody, play a match, then order each other's gear to trade. Easy.
Controlling skills is still pretty random, but much much less then just crossing your fingers. When you order from Spyke, a random number of skills will be carried over from the original. Just keep ordering somebody else's equipment until the junk falls off and only the good skills are left. Then grab it's locked skills, and if it's not ideal, repeat. Since buying an equip like this replaces the original you never have to worry about essentially missing your chance. Doesn't exactly work for unorderables... But eh.
