statistics in particular is important so you don't panic when you hear the phrase "200% increase"

statistics is very important because you can see some really wild claims and then be like "yeah that's not how that works" and move on with your life because you actually know how to take the data and do useful things with it and you can see that they did not do that

i think my interest in math as a kid generally lead me into being good at problem solving in things outside of math

either that or both of those just line up with being a giant freakin nerd. beats me
