I think the fact marina was 18 in splatoon two disproves it. So, if she was dating for ten years then it would be recent unless she was dating at eight years old

that's the thing that threw me off - marina left the domes at 18, and even if you don't buy pearlina i find it unlikely that marina and acht would've been in contact between then and side order

i'm the last person to cry mistranslation over evidence of queer characters but what i heard is that a word that translates more as a general term for associating with someone (付き合い) got machine translated to 'dating'

so likely what's written translates more accurately to them having known each other for ten years. not that that disproves any feelings between them (requited or not), though. but especially in the wake of, uh, everything written in side order, i don't think that'd disprove pearlina either
