About ordering gear with Spyke

Hey guys, I have a question: it seems that there is a possibility to buy gear from people that show up in your plaza and get it from Spyke with the exact sub-abilities - I heard it's sold for around 100k. I found one squid using Red Hi-Tops with 3 Swim Speed Up in my plaza and ordered it, but when I talked to Spyke he didn't give me the option to buy it with the sub-abilities...
Does this option really exist? How does that work, can someone please explain?

it's random, there's a certain probability that spyke will sell gear with the exact same sub abilities. i don't know how likely it is for a three-star piece of gear, though.
