    Hello again, squids of Europe!

In a previous post, I outlined the details for a weekly tournament at EU-friendly times during the week, known as Seascraper. The series has been successful so far, with 6 mainline tournaments and an additional Deluxe tourney, just for the fun of it.

Today, I would like to present the idea of seasons. This initiative aims to make the results of Seascraper events relevant for longer than the single week after the tournament is ran. As a result, the competition should be more fierce, and more interesting to watch as a spectator!

A season consists of 4 regular tournaments. There is no need for any kind of commitment across tourneys within a season; each tournament can be signed up for individually, and teams do not need to play in every tournament within a season. For each tourney, teams will be awarded points based on their placement in the tourney, with higher placing teams being awarded more points. Bonus points are also awarded to teams for other reasons, such as consistency - winning once doesn't mean everything. Full details of how points are awarded can be seen at the bottom of the post.

The points given to teams allow us to create a points-based ranking. Teams will be placed into a leaderboard based on the total number of points they have gathered across the current season. At the end of a season, the team that has the most points is the overall champion!

An interesting thing about the seasonal system is that there will be a fixed list of 7 maps to be played across the entire season. We hope this provides teams with the opportunity to think of map-specific comps and have a greater focus on tactics for selected maps.

This is the first time we've done anything like this, so point values and other rules may be adjusted in future seasons. We are excited to see how it will develop, however, and we hope it will give European teams more opportunity to compete on a regular basis.

Season 1 begins this upcoming Tuesday, 3rd April. The tournaments take place at the same time as they always have: Tuesdays, at 6 PM BST/7 PM CEST, or 7 PM BST - check the #announcements channel in the server for the upcoming tourney time. Most sets are Bo5 and we have strict time restrictions, as always.

Distribution of Points (also available in server):

Performance points (for achieving a specific placement)

    Regular bracket
    1st place: 50 points
    2nd place: 42 points
    3rd place: 34 points
    4th place: 28 points

    Underground bracket
    1st place: 22 points
    2nd place: 18 points
    Below: 12 points

    Bonus points (for other reasons)
× Upsets: Beating a team that is seeded 4 places higher than you (could change depending on the size of the tourney) grants an additional 10 points.
× Consistency: Placing the same as you did in the previous week grants an additional 4 points.
× Improving: Placing higher than you did in the previous week grants an additional 6 points.
× The Comeback: The points awarded to a team that does not play for 2 consecutive weeks, then enters in the 3rd, increases by a multiplier of 80%.
