There's a situation I've been very unsure what to do in, and it's when I'm the only one alive on my team but the other team hasn't seen me yet. Sometimes I am in front of them, and sometimes to the side. If I try to fight them like normal, it's a 1v3 or 4 and I die every time. So my goal is to stall and slow down their progress as much as I can. But how can I do that with s-blast?

With some weapons it would be obvious. If I was using one that particularly liked sharking, I would stay put in the ink until a good opportunity came around to get a splat or two and make them look at me instead of moving forward. If I had a lethal bomb, I could throw that where they want to go to slow them down that way. But burst bomb can't really do that and if I pop booyah it'll just get shredded.
The safest option would be to back up and give my teammates jumps (or jump out when that's not an option) but that basically just lets them move up for free, and I feel like there should be something I can do to be annoying. But I can't think of anything.

I'm no expert, but I would say your best bet is to shark like a Carbon Roller; rely on a jump shot + Burst combo to try and get splats or at least distract opponents. If the enemies are playing cautiously trying to find you and you can't get in to take them out, then your mere presence on the stage is slowing them down on its own.

Of course, not being able to run Ninja Squid is a significant disadvantage. But you get what you can.

In my head, the options usually boil down to these in no order...
  • Shark. Try to pop out only when either your teammates are back or you can directly halt the objective super badly (e.g. killing Rainmaker, if you can solo cap the Splat Zone and give the opponents a huge penalty etc).
  • Skirmish. Definitely the least common of the three but if you can manage to hold some important space from the enemies by yourself then do it. Most of the time I only consider this if there are a few people down on the opposing side too.
  • Retreat. Try to hold the opponents back still if at all possible, like if everyone bum rushes the left ramp on Clam Blitz Crableg or something, but if you dying is inevitable or if you can't stop them then it's not worth messing with that.
Usually which of these I choose depends on mode, how many opponents are alive, the state of the objective, and where I am when I realize I'm the last one. Maybe some fifth thing too but I forget.
