Hi everyone, Cake or Death, new user to the Squidboards here. Feel free to call me Cake, or James, it's entirely up to you.
I'm 26, from the North West of England and ready to mingle with my fellow Squid Kids!
I remember when Splatoon first came out. I typically like to get the physical CD copy of a game as I'm a bit of a collector, but I just couldn't wait for the small independent game shop in my local area to get it in stock. I bought it from the Nintendo eShop on the day it was released instead. Splatoon is the first game that's ever made me do that.
Over time my attention drifted away from Splatoon and I started to get into the competitive side of Pokémon, and managed to grab a PS4 and quickly became addicted to Destiny. It's while playing Destiny I developed an interest in esports, despite Destiny only having a small grassroots movement currently. I hear top level esports tournaments have thousands of dollars in prize money, but it isn't that which interests me. What interests me is watching a group of people working together, communicating, bringing the best out in eachother's skills as players, to achieve a goal, trying everything to best the enemy team of equally determined individuals. I find it amazing. I'm also astounded how esports tournaments are getting coverage on proper telly channels such as ESPN.
As I began to get back into Splatoon and as I read more, watched more on YouTube I was taken aback by how much the Splatoon meta has developed in my six month absence. I've heard the way Splatoon is developing as an esport being described similarly to how Smash developed in the days of Melee, and it fills me with excitement at where Splatoon is headed. I want to be a part of it.
So I've joined Squidboards to meet people, socialise, scrim and develop my currently average skills at this wonderful game. Please say hello and let's get a conversation going.
