Senior Squid
Hello all! Side order has been out for a while, and I've been experimenting with different chip builds recently. While messing around in the spire I was thinking about how cool it would be if Nintendo were to add more color chips! This probably won't happen in a Splatoon 3 update since we aren't really getting new content anymore, especially for side order. Even so, I thought it would be fun to think of what color chips could be added if they were to give Side Order an update or even a Splatoon 4 makeover!
Here are some ideas I had:
Intensify Action Up (Mobility, max 5)
This chip has effects similar to its ability counterpart, offering a faster squid surge and less squid roll deceleration. I'm not exactly sure how to quantify this, but it could go beyond what is offered by the ability variant. Squid surges not only charge faster, but they move faster and grant more height when you clear a ledge, making for great synergy with the Pearl Drone's glide. Squid rolls also scale their initial velocity higher than before, allowing you to practically launch yourself in another direction when you perform one. This one would likely pair pretty well with the squid attack chip! The Intensify Action ability typically offers jump spread reduction. However, the shot spread reduction chip already helps with this, so this effect may prove to be redundant.
Ink resistance (Support, max 5)
Normally, you travel at 25% of your base run speed in enemy ink. With an ink resistance chip, you can travel at 33% (up to 100%) of your base speed when in enemy ink. This scales with any run speed chips you have, too! This is a bit of a smaller idea, but even a small amount could help early on with builds that don't have a lot of paint.
Main Ricochet (Range, max 5)
Let's get away from gear abilities with something more unique: ricochet. This causes main weapon damage dealt to one enemy to spread to up to 1 (+1 up to 5) other nearby enemy with 66% damage. This would be satisfying for crowd control or aoe weapons and amazing for any weapons that typically focus on single targets damage like charger. It could also pair well with chips like main piercing or any chips that increase your main's damage output.
Drone Decoy (Drone, max 5)
Enemies will be distracted for 5 seconds by a hologram that Pearl creates, meaning that they will target the decoy instead of you, the zone(s), or aneight infinity ball. This is great for getting large droves of swarming languendo off your back, keeping those pesky drizzling capriccioso away from your zone, occupying those battering lentos while you push the infinity ball, and more. The hologram requires 600p at one chip, but it goes as low as 200p at 5 chips.
That's it for my ideas (for now...) Color chips have offered some pretty unique upgrades and changes never seen in the series, so there's a lot of potential for some pretty crazy effects, especially with tones like the drone or lucky tones. This is only the surface!
Now, what are some other custom chip ideas that you guys have? They can even be additions/reworks for existing chips. Make them as realistic or wacky as you want!
