:ability_bombsniffer: Do y'all ? Do y'all wish there was more to customization than just the dinky lockers we get ? I mean the apartments were just a rumor and (and or but) what do you think would have been the downsides if they gave us animal crossing styled apartments ? a delay? or maybe splatoon 4 wouldnt arrive untl a decade later ?

In all seriousness, I think people have wanted a way to play Splatoon with other people as a way to hang out with their friends since the first game. Squid partying was the only way to 'hang out' with other fans if you weren't in the online community, but everyone knows now that nobody wants to do that anymore with how disruptive in nature it can be. Walking around in a live hub with other players and emoting or teaming up for a game of tableturf/ grizzco/ ranked would be pretty fun. I think Splatoon is a perfect game for something like that, especially with all the customization, but unfortunately I don't think it'd ever happen since it would take resources off of developing the more important features of the game (aka not the lockers).

There'd have to be some additional gameplay purpose to visiting apartments, as there will either be a loading screen to get there, or a long trek through wherever it connects to the plaza.

If you could say, set up a card table for Tableturf, or a dance mat for Squid Beatz, that could make apartments more of a hangout space than what we get with lockers.

absolutely yes, and a way they could implement that is by combining apartments with the multiplayer lobby (since lockers are already in the lobby anyway)

instead of having a generic lobby, set it up as the apartment itself: a basic geometric layout with customizable decorations & furniture, a training area with target dummies outside, a corner café/refreshments stand by the tableturf battle tables, and the kettle you can use to access your various queues and pbs. instead of holograms of your friends, they can just come over and vibe at your place whenever they join your lobby (so their lobby appearance takes on the design of the host's apartment and they can see what you've done with the place)! that way there's a social space baked into the area of the game you'll likely be spending the most time in anyway.

if lobbies in fighting games can have this for 8+ people then i don't think it's a stretch to say that splatoon could do this and knock it out of the park!

Absolutely adore this idea. Turning the lobby from “this is where cephalopods wait for battles” to “this is where I wait for battles”. Make it feel a lot comfier
