Hey all, Australian fan of splatoon here, had a switch lite up until late 2023 playing splatoon 3, and decided to move to wii u after feeling like 3 wasn't doing well community- or meta- wise. Enjoying the brush kits in the original, despite the lack of some quality of life improvements the original game feels more tightly designed and the gamepad more reasonable for my build.

Sadly never got to play splatoon 2, I hope we get to have it on homebrew as well once official support for the switch is ended.
Who else here is on pretendo?

I'm on pretendo! Splatoon 1 has some of my favorite kits in the series so I love to hop onto it every once in a while

Welcome in! Pretendo could be really cool to get set up, I remember hopping back on Splatoon 1 during its final weekend. It was great. Even got a friendly hacker that set the map (Arowana Mall) to the Splatfest theme and did nothing else.

Both of you should set it up then! The current custom firmware (Aroma) is easy enough to get running and using SaveMii and SplatHex you can get around the grinding that isn't suited for lower player numbers Pretendo works with.
There is even a custom splatfest community, Splatfestival, but I haven't had much luck with their code injector so I haven't been able to see what they have been doing.

I set it up last year and played a few matches. Having to wait for 10-15+ minutes to get into a match eventually grew tiring, there must not be a lot of people still playing. How's your experience with the wait times?

During weekends and mornings it's around 2-5 minutes, nights it largely seems to vary based on whether you can get a multiple of 8 people in the queue at once (wait time is based on people changing their loadouts). There was a split between the beta testing network and the release one last year that might have also caused wait issues.

It would help if there was a more public pretendo group for splatoon, but you probably would also want to arrange general time periods to be active on pretendo?
