Fling ink while in Splashdown?!

So just recently about 5 minutes ago during this current Splatfest, i saw the wierdest thing i have seen in a Splat2 ever.
One guy was just jumping around flinging ink everywhere, and suddenly he/she activated a splashdown, and from the top of it, he started flinging ink like he still was standing on the ground, it hit me pointblank, but didn't splat me at all...

Anyone else experienced this before?

That is some record heavy lag though.
The animation went for Splashdown up until the very top, then it suddenly framed over to the fling animation of a roller.

I'm just annoyed that people are trying to find "valid" exploits the game allows you to use, due to the game already having a slight frame delay from everyone, just like that super jump slide.
