I've seen numerous players online who have for example, three strength abilities in a row, three swim speed-up abilities in a row, and three defense abilities in a row. Every time I re-roll my item's abilities, I always get other abilities like Ink Savers or Special Gauge. How do they get those abilities? Do they keep re-rolling their abilities or do they hack?

It's strictly random what abilities you get, but each brand has one ability that it has a higher chance of rolling. For example, Krak-On gear has a greater chance of rolling Swim Speed. So when you see triple sub gear, it's most likely that they got it on a brand that favors that ability as you have better chances of rolling a triple of a particular ability if you do it on the corresponding brand.
Generally it just comes down to luck and hoping you get it naturally or hoping you can do it in as few rerolls as possible, and trying to make it work in your favor by using gear with the brand that's more likely to get the ability you want. Another method people use is save-scumming, which allows you to effectively have infinite rerolls through save manipulation.

With save manipulation, I need an USB drive and then I need to follow complicated steps to do so. I don't have one at the moment. I'll just go with the brands. Which brand would give you a higher chance of defense?

Also, the attached image is a great resource to refer to for which brands favor which abilities. Each brand icon has a green arrow pointing to the ability it favors and a red arrow pointing to the ability it least favors. It was posted on Reddit a while back but unfortunately I don't remember who posted the thread to give the creator credit. Hopefully it helps you out!

So, this isn't really helpful, nor do I understand it, but the chance for rolling 3 perks the same with the right brand is supposed to be about 2.7 or 2.8 percent
However, there have been 2 times where I got perfect rolls from the initial leveling up, and one where it took me about 70 re-rolls to get the right perks
