How can I get better at aiming?

focus on keeping your reticle on the target instead of just shooting at them
aim a little bit ahead of your target if they are moving perpendicular to you due to the projectile shots having travel time
use motion controls

Try a weapon you don't have to aim much, such as the Luna Blaster.
The explosion radius is pretty small, so I don't think Luna is a good choice. The vanilla blaster is probably the best for practicing aim because of wide explosions. It also has disruptors to pin down targets and make a miss much less punishable.

Actually the Luna blaster blast radius is bigger than the vanilla one. Not by much, just like 2 frames, but it is.

Can literally repeat what everyone has said:

Find the sensitivity that suits your feel/playstyle and definitely learn to use motion controls. You don't have to practice with only chargers, you can use anything you want (unless you REALLY want to main chargers) after that, it's just playing again and again until you get better at it.

I found this really helped my aiming: Play with the Ranged Blaster for a little while. This weapon strongly rewards a direct hit and strongly punishes a non-direct hit because it will alert the opponent to your presence while you can't retaliate until the slow reload cycle finishes.

I find the ranged blaster is a lot more accessible than the chargers -- playing with a charger when you're not great at aiming I find is just frustrating and difficult to judge if you're making any progress at all.

Also, the ranged blaster allows you to play like you would with a variety of other shooters because of its range. If you play with something like a luna blaster, which has short range, then the game is completely about getting up and close to your opponent rather than just aiming. Ranged blaster lets you practice aiming from a safer distance.

Anyway, I tried improving my aiming with a number of other weapons and found ranged blaster was perfect for me to practice aiming and got me into some really good habits like only shooting after I have a target "locked on" rather than shooting and aiming afterwards. It also meant I didn't have to drastically change my play style from the shooters I like to use.

Any tips on how I could get better?
My personal advice:
Set your sensitivity at max and turn on motion controls. Add me on Miiverse and we can play a private match of target practice.
After a bit, we can purposely de-rank ourselves back down to C- (through disc eject method) and then we play together?

Another way to force your marksmanship up is to force yourself to use the Squiffer until you get used to it.

Obviously, everything that is needed to be said has been said, but Nintendome's response I think is the most accurate. If you watch most of the competitive player's videos, their first instinct is to dodge and reposition before diving in to a gun fight. IE: got a long range weapon, then reposition further away, if you have a shorter ranged weapon, get close. If there isnt much room to move, just get a better spot not in front of the enemy, but off to the side or something
