Hi, so as the title says, I need some help in the tower control ranked battle game-mode. I'm an S-player and I definitely can say that with confidence when we're talking about Splat-Zones or Rainmaker but to be honest, I don't think I play at an 'S' level in tower-control.

I don't really know what it is but in Splat-Zones and Rainmaker I'm usually at the top of the team with the most kills and least deaths (not always, sometimes I do have bad days). However Tower-Control is a different story, usually I have a moderate around of kills (about 6-10) but usually 10+ deaths, clearly there are flaws in my game-play but not so sure where. I actually just lost my S rank in tower control (ouch I know) shortly before making this thread so I'm now really determined to fix this problem.

You should know that I usually use either the 96 Gal Deco, Tentatek/Octoshot or occasionally the 52 gal, so obviously I'm quite an aggressive player on the whole. I'm starting to wonder if this is the problem- perhaps I'm just too aggressive in Tower Control? Like I said, in Splat-Zones and Rainmaker I do fine, and it's not like I alter my play style or anything, and as my signature says, I'm no stranger to assessing the situation, and yet I can't shake the feeling that this is where the problem is.

Another thing that I've noticed about my game-play in tower control is that I seem to be quite eager to jump on the tower, don't get me wrong, I don't go jumping on it whenever I feel like it, I'd like to think that when I do jump on it I'm making the right decision, but now I'm starting to wonder.

So yeah, I am at a bit of a loss as to why I suck so much in Tower-Control, any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Great thing about tower control is you really get the pot stirring when the tower is moving. Leaving it in the middle creates a stalemate and everyone is equal. BUT when you get on the tower, the dynamic changes completely. The currently losing team takes a more aggressive approach and you can use this to your advantage.
You say you're an aggressive player and that's fine. In Splat zones and Rainmaker, that's brilliant, but in Tower Control, it's the opposite. You're tied to the tower which is tied to a rail which moves slowly which you have no control over unless you're standing on it. It's the least aggressive objective ever. I'm a defensive player, so I am the opposite of your approach.

Only get on the tower when you feel it will be tactically wise. If you know there's someone waiting on the other side... don't try to actually ride the tower. Clear the way, secure the zone around the tower and THEN get on the tower. And then when you're on the tower and you feel you're entering a bad spot, don't keep riding the tower! Jump off and regroup. Generally, being aggressive in Tower Control is kinda bad.

It's a slow ride, take it easy.

Very interesting, I can definitely see where playing defensively has its advantages, I think in the long run it would be really beneficial for me to learn how to play defensively as sometimes even in Splat-Zones and Rainmaker it can help to be a bit more cautious and less aggressive.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the tips, definitely makes a lot of sense, can't wait to try them out.

Tower control is actually my best rank mode. I tend to use blasters and that kills everyone that jumps on the tower. I like to place mines on the tower as well so the luna blaster is perfect for me. I like to jump on, place a mine, then the other teak become aggressive and try to get on the tower. This is when I get off and then the mine explodes.

That's my tip.

Yeah I used to use Luna Blasters a lot as well but went off of them, maybe it's time for me to go back to them, thanks for the tip!

Be creative. As Rellek pointed out, even simply getting on it can often change the dynamic of the game to your teams' advantage. You need to be thinking about the effect of getting on the tower and how it affects gameplay in addition to how likely you'll be to push it further. When you take that approach you'll learn to predict better when a good time is to push and whether you need to take the intiative to start the push or offer support.

As far as weapons, most weapons can be awesome in the right hands. Figure out what works for your mindset. I like the Luna Blaster Neo and Tentatek because splat/suction bombs can be excellent (and of course the Luna Blaster off-centre shot is fabulous), but not everyone is especially good at throwing bombs so it is less useful for others.

I'm sure you'll find your way, you're obviously a decent player :) One tip, don't put too much value on your K/D ratio. Sometimes repeated splattings while repeatedly superjumping to the tower benefits your team.

How the hell does that help his situation? He doesn't normally use blasters. LOL

It sounds like you know the basics of Tower control, so what I suggest is mostly being the bodyguard when you play Tower Control. with your 96 gal deco, if you don't know how to already, learn how to bounce the splash wall off of the cornered walls onto your tower. That way you can ride the towers a bit safer (and would give you more of a reason to be on the tower, aside from having kraken).

Tentatek/Octosho would be one of those weapons where you switch from being on the tower, or protecting people on it. It's all about the awareness and teamwork from B rank and up!

Good luck on your climb, alpha!

Yes, I do indeed know how to bounce the wall off of the other walls onto the tower and am also getting reasonably good at putting the wall on the tower without any other walls to help. Regardless though thankyou for the suggestion. This video has definitely helped me.

As for the the Tentatek/Octoshot I think my main problem with it is staying on the tower too long which results in me dying too much, I'll definitely have to get used to jumping off the tower and defending the people on it.

Thankyou both for the tips.

Honestly dying is so common in TC it's not really worth fussing over as long as you still win.

Honestly, dying is kinda necessary in TC. It's not like Splat zones where you can stand where you want and Rainmaker where you can take another path... You HAVE to ride the tower and more often than not, die.

Interesting, well I guess I shouldn't worry too much about the amount of deaths I receive, thanks for the info.

When it comes to Tower Control, definitely don't fret over how many times you've died during the match. Tower Control is centered around the tower. Everyone is usually in one area so most people are going to die very often. It's just a very core part of Tower Control - especially if you want to be the one on the tower. I am often the person on the tower and I usually have a lot of deaths because I'm an immediate target the second I jump onto that thing haha. :P

My best advice for Tower Control is to play with a weapon that you are comfortable with. I'm usually using the Heavy Splatling Deco for Tower Control and it's very good for the mode. The Point Sensors allow me to pinpoint my enemies. This helps me see where there at so I can shoot and it also helps me teammates to accurately defend the tower. The Kraken has also helped my team cross over the goal line many times in the past. It's very good to save the Kraken and using it just a few seconds before you're about to cross the line. Most aren't able to knock a Kraken off the tower and it's especially helpful if you have a teammate on the tower with you.

The biggest part of Tower Control is deciding where your role stands. Do you prefer to be on the tower or defending it? The play style can drastically change depending on which role you want to take.

Thanks for the informative explanation Airi! I personally use the 96 Gal Deco, 52 Gal and the Tentatek Splattershot so what I've now been trying to do in Tower Control is getting on the Tower put the Splash Wall on it, from there I might jump off if another player seems committed to staying on the tower and instead act as an escort. Same with the Tentatek except instead of Splash Walls I use the suction bombs. Basically what @Rockin said above.

Being a .96 main, what i can recommend to you is since you are a target on the tower, instead of hopping on it and getting outshot by 3 different people, stay back and try picking people off on the path and let your teammates with better close ranged weapons to the tower riding

I'm an A rank player, and I love TC and Rainmaker. (Splat zones not so much). Anyway I usually go with the 52 gal for TC. What I like to do before I go to where the tower is is build up my special. Play defensively with the gun and fire my killer wail when the enemy has the tower. If we have the lead. I will usually stay completely defensive and just support my team instead of jumping on the tower. ( The only time I really will get on it is if all the enemy team is dead or just to place a splash wall up there for my teamates).
